Ok Dalek win that one 2:1, next up a trio of albums by Il Duce from the golden sixties, featuring in his words 3 garage/psychedelic nuggets!

The Seeds The Seeds 1966

Versus

13th Floor Elevators The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators 1966

Versus

The Chocolate Watch Band The Inner Mystique 1968

The Seeds

I think this one has the right balance between an early psychedelic/punk sound and really good pop tunes. And Sky Saxon than the other two.

The 13th Floor Elevators

I was mightily impressed with this for a long time. But recently, found the electrig jug more obtrusive rather than interesting. I got a recent reissue that has a disc of mostly redundant covers, except for Buddy Holly's I'm Gonna Love You too which benefit from the treatment. Best songs there are their earlier incarnation The Spades' songs, which are basically undeveloped versions of songs on the main album, anyway.

Chocolate Watch Band

Pretty much whimsical and a direct lineage of Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd. Much better than pop psychedelia like Strawberry Alarm Clock, at that mo', which is pretty much watered-dow CWB, with none of the tunesmithing.

so:-

The Seeds - 1
13th FE - 0
CWB - 0

I don`t know the Chocolate Watch band album at all, so I`ll listen to that before voting. I was never a huge fan of the 13th Floor Elevators but I think Easter Everywhere is a better album than The Psychedelic Sounds of ....

The Seeds - 1
13th Floor Elevators - 1
Chocolate Watchband - 0

Firstly, I love the jug. Coupled with the band's warped melodies and chiming rhythms, it gives the album an interesting sonic texture. The reason I choose The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators is because, well, it's just better than the other two. The songs are more memorable and imaginative, boundaries were pushed with its creation. The same can't really be said for it's rivals.. The Seeds, whilst enjoyable, is actually largely forgettable with exception to Pushin' Too Hard and Can't Seem to Make You Mine. The Inner Mystique is good, but compared to TPSO... it doesn't quite measure up. I like the sitar-drenched, languid feel of the album, but it seems a tad rushed, which if you read up on it's background, becomes understandable.

TPSO... was a massively influential record, with many citing it as the first psychedelic rock album. Arguable, but it was certainly a trail blazing release.

13th Floor Elevators 1
Chocolate Watchband 1

As said before I was never a big fan of the 13th Floor Elevators and always found The Seeds a bit run-of -the-mill, but I`ve just listened to Inner Mystique for the very first time and loved it from the first song, it has a lot of catchy tunes, good covers and its wrapped up in psychedelic mystique. Also the singing at times is very Mick Jagger.

I guess it's gonna have to be me. I totally forgot about my Dalek v El-P battle, so the least I can do is end this one.

Roky Erickson is a genius in my book, and one of the forgotten/most tragic acid casualties of the 60's (Brian Wilson, Peter Green, Skip Spence, Syd Barrett... to name a few).

While Chocolate Watchband and The Seeds have to credit to their name, I see them as a one-note act in my book. The 13th Floor Elevators are a major influence on so many artists today and back in their hey-day, it's hard to ignore them and how much their two albums span so many musical genres.

The Seeds 1
13th Floor Elevators 2
Chocolate Watchband 1
