But The Kooks aren't disposable and talentless twats. They get up and perform the songs they are paid to perform, they don't just stand there moving their lips to their CD being played in the background. Ashlee Simpson can't sing, can't perform her own songs and isn't even good at what mainstream pop bases itself on, good looking women. She looks like a transvestite.

the kooks are in essence a mainstream pop band. their music is accesable to a wide audience - young and old. their lyrical content is socio-freindly. their image is manufactured to fit into the new fashion trends. their songs are simplistic.
And not all mainstream pop stars mime. some of them actually have ok voices - which is more than i can say for Luke Pritchard.

Yes, The Kooks are Pop. But they are good Pop. Madonna is good Pop. Even though I don't like Madonna, she goes out and works her arse off and performs the songs she is paid money to. Kelly Clarkson also falls into that category. Ashlee Simpson, Pussycat Dolls and the like are not good Pop. They have nothing in the way of talent, especially Ashlee Simpson. She can't even redeem herself with her looks.

All credit to Madonna, everyone else is a follower compared to her, but she did lyp-sinc her last tour.

Because its the "cool" thing to do.

She lip-synched? Well thats part of my respect for her gone then.

I kinda enjoy a lot of music, but I think most of those artists who can't do anything but shake their stupid ..tts on the stage are DETRIMENTAL. When I look back to the music made in 70's and even the 80's and I look at the crap we're served as music nowadays I just feel like screaming. Maybe some here are a bit too opinated when they're coming against mainstream music, but I think good music should be also promoted, and unfortunately it's not the case

I listen to quite a bit of pop music, that is also more passionate and isn't as disposable. Come by my thread http://www.musicbanter.com/showthread.php?t=16260 or ask me for recommendations (i have plenty), as long as I don't get called a hipster or whatever names you guys like to throw out.

I really don't like our pop forum here. I've said it a couple times, but that forum is predominantly threads involving easy targets for people to come in and raise their post counts. Going into a thread and insulting Avril Lavigne...why bother? I made a Blondie thread in there a while back, I don't think it turned out so well b/c the majority was preoccupied bashing some hollywood idol. Honestly, if I were to post about artists like Katie Melua or Sarah McLaughlin, etc., I'd just come to the general music forum, it'd get more of the proper attention.

Pop isn`t about talent , it`s not about how good you are live. I couldn`t care less if people lip synch or not it`s just a red herring. It`s just not important.

You think a child cares if someone wrote the song or not when they dance to it when it comes on the radio? You think someone cares if someone lip synchs the songs when they play on TV if you`re dancing to it in a club?

It`s supposed to be light , sugary & disposable thats the point. It`s not supposed to get any other reaction out of you than to make you want to dance to it.If you`re judging pop music in the same way you judge somebody like Led Zeppelin or whatever then you`re totally missing the point of it.

TrampInaTux 05-28-2006 01:17 PM

I judge all music in the same way, in my eyes that is the only way it should be judged. And I know children don't care, but I don't want to listen to music for children. And I don't think there are any children who post on MB, these are people who should know better than to fight for Ashlee Simpson's corner.
