Besnard Lakes - Are the Dark Horse

Sort of a post-rock/shoegaze/indie band out of Canada that I've heard good things about.

Mr. Satchmo just turned me on to this. I haven't given it a proper listen yet, but it's good to see it in your lineup too. I'll have to get it onto my player soon.

Love that Opeth album... my favourite one by them is 'Still Life'

I've always been interested in Riverside but haven't heard any of their stuff. I'll definitely need to check 'em out.

I have more favourite albums by Opeth, Still Life is also one of them together with Damnation, Blackwater Park and Watershed ;)

If you want to start with Riverside, I recommend their first album Out of Myself. It's more catchy than the new one Anno domini. But lot of people say Anno Domini is their best because it's probably LITTLE BIT heavier and it has 5 longer tracks.

Neither of them are particularly "hard" but it's still pretty decent progressive metal if you're driving with grandma.

I agree, Out of Myself is the best start with this band. Out of Myself - Last.fm

But @LoathsomePete... you have probably very open-minded grandma  My grandma wouldn't be able to survive one song :D
Ok, I am girl, I don't need too heavy stuff and I always say they are something like progressive rock/metal and not only metal.

I didn't like it at all, after 3 songs I turned it off because it was putting me into a catatonic stupor.

Well I'm pretty sure it's because my grandmother is pretty much deaf, but I'd like to think that she enjoyed Swansong by Carcass when I played it really loudly driving up I-5 from Tacoma Washington to Vancouver.

50 Cent Haircut - Brood or Change

A very good alt. country album with indie rock influences.

Both are incredible.
...seeing these guys (J-Lou-Murph) in March and I can't wait!

Glad to see you're on the trolley. I saw them in November, great blisteringly loud show.

^nice, Cwass wecords, i would like to know how many of the bands they put out were not shit. been rinsing the live half of 'Christ the Album' alot recently, they pressed purity without so much as a 12-bar blues,

nuh-uh never got round to it, youbtubing them now though and it does things... the problem with Crass and family is that they go widely unrecognized for their experimentalism.. but they never went off-message. All the found samples they used and the tape loops and everything were so damn effective.

my mistake also 'cause K.U.K.L. put out two albums on that label and they are scary as hell. real face melters. Always wanted to hear the 'Bullshit Detector' samplers as well, will report back if i can find em
