Dear Universe by Canary
I've been getting into Australian indie/alternative music lately, a lot of which I've checked out through a blog that specializes in new Australian bands. I haven't listened to the whole album yet, but I've listened to the first few songs. One of my favorites is Mansuit, posted below. Their album is up for Name Your Price on Bandcamp. Dear Universe has 13 songs, which (from what I've listened to so far) are probably all filled with nice folky melodies, nice harmonies, and quiet openings with great build-ups (specifically in Mansuit), check it out! http://f0.bcbits.com/z/15/49/1549072069-1.jpg Great album cover too! Mansuit | Canary Mansuit has a Radiohead feel to it as well I'd say. |

Witch Mountain—South of Salem First of all, I love this album cover. It's hilarious and awesome and fits perfectly with the tongue-in-cheek nature of the album title (which is a play on both their hometown's famous namesake and the similarly-titled Slayer album). The album itself is certainly very interesting. Imagine some nice heavy, sludgy doom metal with clean 60s bad-girl style vocals in the vein of Nancy Sinatra and you have a pretty good idea what this band sounds like. Definitely an interesting mix, I guess we'll see how it holds up to repeat listens. ...also... http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...wavailable.jpg Bongripper—Satan Worshipping Doom I'm willing to bet you can guess what this album sounds like by the band name and title, but if not, let me just say this is super-heavy, somewhat droney, instrumental doom metal with a slight experimental edge. Just what the doctor ordered for me right now. Really, if I could have conjured up exactly the music I wanted to listen to at this very moment it would sound exactly like this. |

Bruce Peninsula - Open Flames I'm really loving this album, not quite sure how to describe it, Kind of a combination of indie, emo, gospel, folk, maybe even the occasional bit of country. Though mainly consisting of a relatively standard and consistent core band, they are usually joined by a female choir that changes quite a bit and has contained(at various times) members of Austra, Ohbijou,The Weather Station, and Timber Timbre. I Highly suggest this to anyone who digs folky indie rock ala First Aid Kit, Fleet Foxes, The Snake The Cross The Crown. And if you like this make sure to check out their first album, A Mountain Is A Mouth, it's even better than this one. Open Flames (w/ Bonus Tracks) | Bruce Peninsula Quote:
