He's also the master of the univibe.

Listened to some of it just now, and it's... fascinating. Sounds like a huge middle finger to conventional rhythm and other conventional things. Checking it out further tomorrow.

I was kind of awake for over 50 hours, so a couple days worth of listening here but I never was asleep. I drifted in and out for a few hours during the Aphex Twin album, though.

I put that on to go to sleep fairly often back in college. Makes sense. What doesn't make sense is that I also put on Richard D. James Album from time to time before going to sleep. :crazy:

Yeah, that album is pretty much my sleep anthem at this point. #3/Rhubarb is my favorite track to drift off to. I've also done Richard D. James Album once. I don't think I slept very well, though.

Silencer - Death - Pierce Me (2001)
I felt the urge to seek out some fucked-up sounding black metal this evening and this album hits the spot nicely. The vocalist sounds completely mentally deranged. Actually he is, he supposedly cut off his own hands during the recording of this album and was institutionalised not long after. The vocals here can be either a turn off or define the album. They sound very unsettling and make the music uncomfortable to listen to, giving it a unique atmosphere. Even the instrumentals sound great, with some nice guitar riffs and even piano pieces.

I tried listening to Silencer out of curiosity. The vocals made me burst out laughing. I can appreciate mentally deranged, but this just sounds hilarious to me and not depressive at all. I'm a very depressed human being who appreciates depressive music and I'm wishing I could see it, but I just don't.

The vocals do not unsettle me or make me uncomfortable, either. I like the instrumentals. Too bad...

Just my opinion, of course. You said it's not for everybody and that's very true.

Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma

Trying to make more of an effort to delve into more diverse music. Got suggestions from a friend and I'm really enjoying this one! Flying Lotus is not at all what I was expecting,

Callisto - Secret Youth (2015)

I was a little turned off of these guys from their 2009 album Providence, it just didn't have the same bite that 2006's Noir did and there were a lot of bands doing the Neurosis/ISIS post-metal thing that I didn't really want/ need another in my library.

I wonder if the band felt the same way as they took a 6 year break to record this album and it feels like a very different animal. At times it reminds me of The Tea Party, with an almost middle eastern sound yet achieved through western instrumentation. Lots of dissonance and some really good bass mixing, which I always appreciate with this genre.

Cocteau Twins & Harold Budd - Moon and the Melodies

Chose an album at random to get into these guys. I winded up absolutely loving this. I can see them becoming one of my favorite artists already.
