The Gathering - Disclosure

I've been wanting to listen to one of their albums since last year, so I'm hoping that this will be a good starting point for their discography.

Model 500 - Deep Space

I've made a list of goals for next year that are related to music. One of these goals is to listen to more electronic music that isn't IDM or ambient, so I decided to download this Detroit Techno album.

And I was listening to this while I was waiting for those two albums to finish downloading:

Carbon Based Lifeforms - World of Sleepers

It's a bit too long IMO, but this is still a very relaxing psybient album.

I just finished listening to Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture", "Marche Slave" and "Romeo and Juliet Fantasy" on vinyl, since we just got a turntable. Let me tell you that there is NOTHING like listening to classical music on a vinyl record.

Performed by the New York Philharmonic, and obviously conducted by the late great Leonard Bernstein:

Here's the back. There's a short history written up about each of the pieces featured here, that fits nicely on the jacket, which is definitely something you do not get with a CD:

And the record itself:

This was given to me by my dad, who used to listen to a lot of classical music and had a huge collection of vinyl that was all classical stuff. He had actually sold off that collection (which he regrets now because he would have preferred to give it all to me). But my parents are currently going through all the albums they own right now, and there are A LOT. My dad found this stray from his old classical collection and said I could have it, and anything else he might find. I think he bought it in the 1980's.

Oh I've had RYM for almost two years now, haha. It's just so painstaking to add my collection (which is also including my parents collection) because you have to do it one at a time, all that crap. And I also have to flip through each record to see what it is.

It's not complete yet and probably won't be for awhile yet since we have so much music all together. I made some progress though, the other day, so I put the link back in my signature.

It's a different sound and more of a grower, but damn is it good. "So It Goes", "Home Outgrown" and "Male Call" are among their best songs.

I really didn't think it was a grower at all. I listened to it yesterday and so far I've listened to it four times. It's a great album, but you can totally tell they switched to a better label.
