I don't think the age of the album really has anything to do with its value. Should a brand new copy of a 2015 release by Beyonce (for example) be worth more than a brand new reissue of a Beatles album?
Vinyl ain't cheap these days. I just did a quick search on Amazon and there isn't a cheaper one available. Granted, for this type of release I should just check eBay as there are a handful of auctions starting at $1-4 (plus shipping). |

The Phantom Band - Fears Trending (2015) I added this to my wishlist earlier in the year, don't remember where I discovered it (maybe here?) They're from Glasgow, and as you might guess from the album cover, their sound is an update on Canterbury prog. |

Further came out in 1993 when vinyl was going through it's death throes and everybody was buying CDs. Most record companies had stopped releasing stuff on vinyl at this point, the only real exceptions being special limited edition pressings, so I could understand why it would cost as much as it does. Compared to an album released on a major label a decade earlier when vinyl was still the dominant format, there were probably millions of copies of Speaking in Tongues pressed. For a brand new pressing maybe I can understand people paying more because it costs more now to make vinyl, but people paying over the odds for 2nd hand copies baffles me. |

Stop Motion Orchestra - Instant Everything! (2014) Really interesting avant/prog album. I especially like the song "T.V.T.V.", but the whole thing is killer so far. Here's the bandcamp: https://stopmotionorchestra.bandcamp.com/releases |
Alabama Shakes - Sound & Color
http://www.brooklynvegan.com/img/as/...ound-color.jpg They definitely do some genre-bending on this album, the soul-rock influence is still forefront, but they blend in a lot of psychedelic rock too, which is usually not my thing, but on first listen I enjoyed it. Speedy Ortiz - Foil Deer http://www.motherjones.com/files/Spe...01-460x460.jpg I haven't listened to this one yet, but I was a big fan of Major Arcana, so I'm on board. |

Foetus—Hide (2010) Despite being a huge Foetus fan for the past twenty years, I somehow let his last two albums slip by me. I remedied that last night, and damn does he just keep getting better. This album is every bit as whacked out as anything he's ever done but maybe a little more low-key, melodic and complex. Some incredible stuff here that sounds like no one else. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...tus_-_Soak.jpg Foetus—Soak (2013) Outtakes and extensions of the Hide sessions apparently, but this really stands on its own. I feel like this is the point where the aesthetics of his instrumental/faux-movie score project Steroid Maximus has fully merged with Foetus and I was absolutely floored by the results: a track that is almost... dare I say... Beatles-esque, lush instrumentals, tracks with gorgeous, multilayered vocals (seriously I'm using the word "gorgeous" to describe the vocals on a Foetus album), surprises at every turn. Honestly, I'm astonished by this album. |
