Eumir Deodato had a little known ensemble called Os Catedráticos which is
having an album re-release next month. Features some short classics like "Os Grilos" and "Tristeza" on it. http://tinyimg.io/i/oIWC5nJ.jpg |
Employer is now allowing me to commute in the company Ford Ranger, so I downloaded Monster Magnet's Powertrip and it felt fantastic.

Five disc set of Mingus in Detroit at the Strata Concert Gallery. More open and
freewheeling style that's closer to the energy of his live early 60s recordings. Don Pullen, John Stubblefield and Joe Gardner are joined by the great Roy Brooks instead of the usual Dannie Richmond and it shows in a good way because Brooks at that time was really hot and energetic in his playing, creating the perfect fuel for this session. http://tinyimg.io/i/0usH13i.jpg |

I mean, you really can’t go wrong with these women. Caterina Valente doesn’t just go thru the motions of Corcovado, she absolutely oooozes it in an almost kitten-like voice that’s right up there with Astrud’s famous version. You have Alaide Costa with the great Baden Powell. You have the sultry, near-baritone of Maysa doing Agua de Beber and a wonderful peek at 4 tunes sung by Dolores Duran (A Noite Do Meu Bem will bring tears to your eyes) with 10 interpretations of her songs. Ella Fitzgerald said she did the best version of My Funny Valentine she’d ever heard. Unfortunately Duran died of a heart attack at age 29. I have to laugh that it's on Cherry Red Records tho - a label known for punk and post-punk classics! |
Over 15 hours taken from the Ragas Live broadcasts.
Each year, the festival features 24 hours straight of various ragas performed live. One year, I remember screen recording the whole 24 hours (automatically, during sleep, for some of it) and saving it and the audio for a wonderful feast of music. http://tinyimg.io/i/kMWghbm.jpg |
Last one I bought was Shinedown's Attention! Attention!
