Yeah, I thought it was bunk until I saw this line:
"Raised by a father with a storied career as an expert psycho-pharmacologist..." so, maybe... |
And now I'm curious about the future of lion fish drugs.
|
After listening to this, I'm convinced that the Germans did better drugs.
It's not bad - just kinda boring (but probably not in their minds). |
Have you ever seen that series where the artist did self portraits while on different types of drugs? That'd be an interesting way to go about an album if you replaced self-portraits with jazz standards or something like that.

The experience versus reality dichotomy could be disorienting/disheartening/saddening for the performer on many drugs. I think standards could open up the disparities between the performances in terms of improvisation while still showing how their memory based/technical abilities stand up under that experience.
It could very well have been done before, that's why I brought it up to rostasi since he'd probably know of it (as well as how the artist takes their tea :D). That's me making this post drunk. Tomorrow I'm trying it out on meth, wish me luck! |

The only thing that comes close to mind is Art Pepper's three nights at the Village Vanguard where, on smack, he kept sounding better and better each night, but that's only one drug, I suppose. |
Judie Tzuke is putting out a collection of all of her (mostly out of print) studio albums, plus some unreleased songs. 24 CDs in a coffee table book format. I really, really want it but the price tag makes my brow sweat. Almost 90 pounds. Yikes. I kinda wanna do it, but I feel like I probably shouldn't.

Sadly not filthy rich, so I got these instead of the above:
Beth Orton - Daybreaker https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...Daybreaker.jpg Folk/songwriter with electronic elements. Usually with a sort of americana/south states feel. Her albums are usually very atmospheric, but in a very subtle way. Never heard this one, but I've liked everything I have heard from her so far. Julia Holter - In The Same Room http://dis.images.s3.amazonaws.com/104617.jpeg One of the very few things Anthony Fantano managed to make me interested in. I watch his channel all the time, but barely ever bought anything he's been praising. Odd, actually. But I'm excited to hear her new album one day. I bought an older album first though, since I want to hear the contrast to some of her previous work when I finally get the new album she released very recently. Elanor Friedberger - Last Summer https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....5L._SX425_.jpg Don't remember her style and sound at all, but her albums are on lists of CDs I want to get. So... Gonna be interesting to hear why I put her on those lists some time ago. I will have to trust the judgment of my past self. Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood / The Tigers Have Spoken http://bdcampbell.net/javascript/pro...gsTheFlood.jpg https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....1b1Iu1ad3L.jpg Two of the last few albums I'm missing from Neko Case. Haven't heard an album from her yet that wasn't at least a 9/10, so I'm excited to hear these two. Even in a worst case scenario, you still have her incredible singing voice. |
