^ Slayer have always been awesome; the problem is getting others to realize it!

Anyway, a couple new additions to my colleczion-

Lobster Newberg - Actress (2009)

A curious yet attractive slice of modern prog. rock, blending the propulsive Indie of The White Stripes with the quirkiness of Gentle Giant to varying degrees of effectiveness. The generally short song lengths and cheery production values are nice touches too, so I recommend this one highly to prospective listeners.

Do Make Say Think - Winter Hymn County Hymn Secret Hymn (2003)

This is a party where dub, folk, post-rock and various forms of modern jazz-tinged electronica mingle and share drinks, and a bloody good gig from my listenings so far. The fact that it covers so much ground makes it something of a marvel actually, and I think it'll have a lot of staying power as I spend more time with it.

I am a fan of the two thrash classics 'Reign In Blood' and 'Seasons in the Abyss', (1986 and 1990 respectively) and it's taken me this long to get another Slayer album; so to suddenly leap to their 2006 album you think would be jarring. But no, it's business as usual, albeit with punchier modern production - this is definitely up there with the other two. The band deliver the sonic attack you crave and then some, and tackle familiar lyrical themes (religion, satanism, bloody murder, fiery death) with some contemporary issues in the songs 'Jihad' and 'Consfearacy' (gotta love those metal puns).
No-one is ever going to give Slayer an award for innovation over the last twenty years, but considering what they have done for extreme metal - who cares?

I would like to marry Molecules! Nail on the head for sure. The irony is that lead singer Tom Araya is deeply religious! It just adds more spice to the naysayers!

Akercocke - Words That Go Unspoken, Deeds That Go Undone

Downloaded this after Lee gave them a positive write up in his "50 Albums to Bang Your Head To". Good progressive black metal is always a welcome to my ears, however I think I had my hopes set a little too high for this album. Not to say the album was bad, it just wasn't as good as some of the other acts I've heard this year like Cobalt's album Gin.

The sampling of this band that I listened to didn't really do it for me but I have to give them props for having some decent album artwork that's outside the normal look of the genre.

It's an album that definitely needs repeated listens. I'm not the biggest fan of the hyperfast beats (unless it's Grindcore) but I love the brass balls of making an album that is not initially pleasing to fans of a particular genre who hate deviation from their preferred sound!

Hyperfast you say? I may give this one another listen.

Aydio - Groove Road EP

Earlier in the year I was sent his debut EP Deltitnu and was pretty impressed by his beat making abilities. It's for the most part trip-hop, but it's got some added dub to make it really stand out and rememberable. Enjoying this one, but not as much as Deltitnu however for $.91 cents I really can't complain about anything.

^I'm listening to it right now. Great album but it's making me a bit sick (a good thing, but not at the moment).

I just downloaded the new Kings of Convenience: Declaration of Dependence. It's absolutely stunning. Perfect for when I'm drinking tea in the morning, or evening for that matter. I am constantly amazed by the records these guys put out, there hasn't been a bad one yet.

Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
I eventually decided to hear what all the fuss was about, having only heard 2 songs before. I was greatly rewarded, it's like 11 tracks of sunshine coming from my speakers. I wish i was sitting in grass by a stream on a sunny summer day listening to this. Great stuff :D

Usherhouse - Molting
A stark contrast to Fleet Foxes. This is dark, atmospheric gothic rock best suited for sitting in a dark room on your own with a pair of headphones. A good album overall but some songs tend to go nowhere.
