The Musicbanter Hall of Fame Nominations

Okay, so here goes...

I'm going to start the MusicBanter hall of fame. I shall explain how this works. Basically, I'm going to post up someone that I feel should be inducted into the Musicbanter hall of fame followed by an argument for why they should be inducted. You guys then have to either 'agree' or 'disagree' whether that person should be inducted, followed by a reason why (optional). I will not be nominating every person, as I don't have a good enough music taste. I'm leaving that to you guys. Send me a PM with the person you would like to be up for induction, followed by the argument for that person and I will post it up (giving you the credit, of course.)

David Bowie

The Thin White Duke, Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane... so many different personas, so many different eras and so many different ways to inspire the world. Bowie was Rock n Roll personified, a camp, glitzy performer who oozed cool and breathed charm. If anybody deserves to be in the Hall Of Fame then it's Bowie.

Agree or disagree?

bungalow 07-06-2006 03:21 PM

Agree.
Great thread idea too.

_Spinning_ 07-06-2006 03:22 PM

Agree. Good thinking.

right-track 07-06-2006 03:25 PM

Agree.
Rarely does an artist span decades and change with the times, creating great music in the way David Bowie has.

Urban Hat€monger ? 07-06-2006 03:27 PM

Yep he`s in it for me.

People like Madonna jump on bandwagons , Bowie created them.

Mr Sensitive 07-06-2006 03:34 PM

Agree.

TrampInaTux 07-06-2006 03:44 PM

Anybody going to disagree?

And come on people, send me some PMs so I can get another argument up.

swim 07-06-2006 03:56 PM

Agree.

TrampInaTux 07-06-2006 04:09 PM

Bowie has been unanimously voted as the first person to be inducted into the Musicbanter hall of fame. The next inductee was chosen by swimintheundertow.

Radiohead

One of the most, if not the most, influential artists of the 90's. From the immature Pablo Honey to pure genious Ok Computer, all of their albums are great. So many bands put out their debut album 3 times and consider themself good but, Radiohead has shown great range and is a great band.

Agree or disagree?

bungalow 07-06-2006 04:10 PM

Bold and underline radiohead you fool.
agree.

TrampInaTux 07-06-2006 04:14 PM

Happy Bill? You moody bastard. :)

bungalow 07-06-2006 04:15 PM

Very nice. :)

_Spinning_ 07-06-2006 04:17 PM

Radiohead - Agree.

Mr Sensitive 07-06-2006 04:18 PM

Once again, agree.

crow t robot 07-06-2006 04:58 PM

Agree on both counts...how could you not?

Merkaba 07-06-2006 05:04 PM

Yes for both.

MURDER JUNKIE 07-06-2006 05:15 PM

Disagree with Radiohead, tell me again what their big contribution to music was?

Reznorslave 07-06-2006 05:24 PM

disagree with radiohead

bungalow 07-06-2006 05:25 PM

Eh you guys are fat anways.

sleepy jack 07-06-2006 05:28 PM

Hey, lets make an MB hall of fame and only put up bands that are obviously going to get in!

bungalow 07-06-2006 05:30 PM

Great idea Batman!

sleepy jack 07-06-2006 05:35 PM

I'm guessing some of the next few bands brought up will be Smiths, Morrissey, Mars Volta, Muse, Joy Division or some other band everyone orgasms over.

bungalow 07-06-2006 05:37 PM

I was gonna write up an argument for immortal technique

I'd agree to that. Immortal is teh awesomezorz.

TheBig3 07-06-2006 06:26 PM

I disagree with Radiohead. It depends on what criteria we're going to let bands in on. While an "elite" minority may feel their massivly influential, they alienate a great majority of people. Is that the barometer?

Before everyone takes the "well thos people are stupid" approach, Lets use the first example as an argument. Bowie didn't always come off accesible, but people love him, not me, but people and I think Bowie does deserve to get in.

Radiohead? I don't think so. If this Hall will represent us, lets not be Spin Magazine.

Raine 07-06-2006 07:22 PM

Yes and no. Radiohead should have the door slammed on their face.
Although lala palooza was their doing. . .
Damn.

Merkaba 07-06-2006 08:53 PM

Why don't Radiohead deserve to get in?

I want to see a list of con's as to why they're a no-go.

TheBig3 07-06-2006 09:35 PM

No, thats not the game, we shouldn't come up with a list for every band to keep them out. If you want them to get in, write up the list as to why they should. To do it inversly is stupid, im not writing up reasons why Stryper shouldn't get in.

MURDER JUNKIE 07-06-2006 10:00 PM

Stryper should totally get in, To Hell With The Devil was a MASTERPIECE!!!!!

riseagainstrocks 07-06-2006 10:06 PM

This thread will be moderated strictly. We're trying to provoke real debate.

I vote yes for Radiohead. There was no liked or disliked criteria given. Simply put, Radiohead have always been at the forefront of inovation and have always pushed the boundries of what is acceptable for major label bands to do. The deserve this spot for not only putting out album after album of greatness, but for doing so on their own terms.

Frances 07-06-2006 10:17 PM

^yay, I'll second that.

Good to see Bowie's in there first!

I figure there will be some obvious oldies (the Doors, the Stones)
But I'm more interested in seeing what newer bands get argued on here.

Also, Is this "Fame" just from how popular you are or from how famous you are?

Marilyn Manson may not deserve to get in, but he sure is famous.
A lot of people would say he has put nothing good into music, but you can't say he hasn't had a buttload of attention. anyway, I'm not voting for him.

I agree. I had written up a list of reasons why they should go in, but deleted it before I posted as I was keen to hear the reasons why they shouldn't be in first.

I say they should be in for their innovation. Used production of music to be creative and original. Could play their instruments well. Unique. Broad styles of music. They're not a fluke, as in, they've produced more than 1 amazing album in their time.

riseagainstrocks 07-06-2006 10:32 PM

Unless it is Cynic.

Who am I kidding I'm the only only one here who listens to Cynic

*cries the I'm the only one who listens to Cynic on MB cry*

TrampInaTux 07-07-2006 12:14 AM

Cheers RAR for moderating this thing. I don't want it spinning out of control like so many of the other threads.

And Frances has sent me a PM with Tom Waits' name in it, then said that 'Big3 should do the promotion for him'. Please, PLEASE no one do this. Include the persons name AND the argument at all times, otherwise I'm not posting it up.

TrampInaTux 07-07-2006 12:22 AM

Sorry for double posting, but I felt that I should try and induct somebody else just to keep the thread going as NO ONE ELSE SEEMS TO BE PMING ME.

EDIT: Radiohead are in the Hall of Fame aswell.

Outkast

This Atlanta hip-hop duo burst onto the scene with their critically acclaimed debut album, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik. Since then they have released many albums, the most popular of which (Speakerboxxx/Love Below) Went triple Platinum and is one of the few Rap albums to do so. With Big Boi's laid back, casual approach to the game and Andre 3000's in your face, glam-cool they combine to form the most exciting rap duo to grace the Earth.

Agree or disagree?

mosesandtherubberducky 07-07-2006 12:34 AM

Agree! Outkast is awesome, great break-in group for people who don't listen to rap and just good fun. oh and they're from ATL so that's cool to me *hails from north of ATL*

TrampInaTux 07-07-2006 04:20 AM

I've got another induction waiting here...either more people vote on Outkast or I'm putting up this induction straight away and putting Outkast into the MB hall of fame with only one vote.

Here's your chance to disagree if you want...

MURDER JUNKIE 07-07-2006 04:24 AM

disagree, Run DMC or Public Enemy sure.

but Outcast??? http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f3...9e97671c4e.gif You are BAKED!!!

Trauma 07-07-2006 07:56 AM

disagree

swim 07-07-2006 08:48 AM

Disagree
