Substitute the name of any band not a punk one and this post works for elph.

Queen Boo 02-21-2023 01:20 PM

I mean he can hate whatever he wants I just find him so predictable, I think the only time he's ever surprised me is when he said he likes Genesis.

Frownland 02-21-2023 01:44 PM

Yall remember when their singer died and their fans went on a campaign saying everyone who doesn't love Linkin Park is lying?

I say we pool our collective resources and efforts together to collect all of elph's posts and use it as a training data set to make our own ChatGPT-based Elphbot.

You: "Hey Elphbot, what do you think about Coldplay?"

Elphbot: "Total and utter cringe. You might like them if you're an out of touch soccer mom or find the idea of listening to a neutered and NyQuil-laden Radiohead compelling."

You: "Elphbot, what do you know about the Cramps?"

Elphbot: "I was listening to the Cramps when I was in diapers. Why don't you ask me what I don't know about the Cramps? What I can tell you is your time would be better spent listening to the Ramones. The Ramones were streetwise irreverent apolitical neighborhood weirdos...in other words they were Punks"

This would be a really fun idea for the Discord.

Not that I have a clue, but wouldn't the routine go something like

RUN ELPH IF PUNK GOTO COOL IFNOT GOTO CRAP

Go To's are a big no-no :nono:

Like I said, not a clue. But why are goto's frowned upon?

Essentially, as programs progress in their lifetimes (and I've worked on code older than I am), the more go-to's you have (which are essentially unstructured jumps from one part of the program to another), the more difficult the program becomes to understand, the more difficult it becomes to maintain, and the more time and money needs to be spent to work with and modify them.

You might think you've got it figured out in a program with 15 different Go-To's, but then after promoting to production, you get your ass completely burned.

How about this one that was going around, anyone remember this?

Fact check: Avicii, Bennington, Cornell and Bourdain were not working on a child sex trafficking documentary and did take their own lives

"Thick as a Brick" would be way worse without the flute.

This sounds more like a release valve for your misogyny than anything.

I support all the cute flautists even when their efforts are not as sensational as here

Are you a coder/developer? I'm thinking of going into technical writing but also don't feel like learning html and all that ****

Yes sir.

What kind of technical writing are you talking about?

In terms of understanding modern web development, HTML is the least of your worries. Javascript and all the accompanying libraries and frameworks are a lot more complex. I frequently work with PHP/Javascript - but also do backend development on our IBM server.

The kind that pays, basically. Where my advanced degrees and Fr/En bilingualism (we're talking Canada) would be assets but also preferably not Montreal cause my American gf is never getting a RN job here.

Trouble is, I'm not what you'd call a tech whiz. So I'm guessing a tech/grant writer in other areas, like ngos and stuff

I see - I can't really give much advice in the realm of tech writing, as that's not my thing - but if you're motivated, it couldn't hurt to get an entry level cert like the CompTIA A+ cert (shouldn't be that difficult for a smart guy like you to get) to show a prospective employer that you're willing to learn and know a thing or two about tech to supplement your credentials in writing/language, even if tech hasn't been your primary domain.

Thanks! Sounds like a good idea.

SGR's Employment and Career Advice Bureau: next up - what sort of job you can get if you're in your thirties and still live with your mom...

The Batlord 02-25-2023 08:20 PM

Do not want.

I'm happy to give advice when I can, but I'm only confident in giving advice for breaking into tech. If I could go back in time, I might have skipped a college education (to save money) and tried to get my foot in the door with only certifications. Oh well, live and learn.

If I ever start up my desired media outlet, The Monthly Jazz Review, in which we'll cover the latest and greatest in the world of beboppin' swingin' jazz music, you'll be the first one I offer a job to, Trolls. ;)

Ozzy's voice post-Sabbath is not great, and if someone covered the songs it would almost certainly be better.

SGR 02-28-2023 09:47 AM

Ozzy had a great voice, especially for Sabbath.

That said, I think Bill Ward should've sung a few more tunes for them.

Frownland 02-28-2023 12:06 PM

Hate that gimmick where people move their voice up and down in ways that rhythmically and melodically reflect and build on the accompaniment.

Do you just not like the genre?

Trollheart 02-28-2023 12:17 PM

You already know he hates metal. Why should this come as a surprise? This opinion of his is about as relevant as me saying Dizzy Gillespie couldn't play drums for ****, or whatever. His opinion on metal means nothing.

I mean, he was a trumpeter, so that's probably a relevant opinion - even if you dislike jazz.

 See? Shows how much I know about jazz! But if I advanced that opinion, would you give it any credence? Hey: maybe he WAS a **** drummer!

I'm just saying that you can't take anything at face value that comes out of the keyboard of a guy who professes to hate metal. It has no validity at all; he's already dismissed the entire genre so who cares what he thinks about Ozzy or anything else? He's the same with soccer, slagging it off in another thread, as if he knew anything about it.

agenderlessnerd 02-28-2023 09:28 PM

I’m not sure if this is an unpopular opinion, per se, but I find a lot of comfort in songs by The Vogues. :o:
