but I wonder if you guys know of any ? im guessing their tons

Muzak 10-12-2006 06:42 PM

American Idiot is not Green Day's worst album, its Waring.

tdoc210 10-12-2006 07:00 PM

cky is an allright band

swim 10-12-2006 07:28 PM

Debut albums 90% of the time are better than anything else the band will ever put out. Jazz chords kick European chords' ass.

Urban Hat€monger ? 10-12-2006 08:43 PM

Extreme metal = DULL DULL DULL
Jeff Buckley , Elliot Smith & Bonnie Prince Billy have/will never put out anything as good as Nick Drake , Scott Walker or Nick Cave
Green Day were always commercial sounding & their old albums were just as crap as the stuff they`re putting out now
Nirvana fans who think they know about underground music because they once bought a Meat Puppets album.
The Meat Puppets were crap.
Other bands I think that are crap that some people hero worship on this forum .... Primus , The Melvins , Muse and anything with Mike Patton apart from Faith No More.

This isn't an unpopular opinion, since many people do believe it, and of course it dosen't change the fact that it's incorrect.

Quote:

8. Jeff Buckley's best song was a cover.
Mojo Pin = Not a cover.

Yeah I know it's your opinion, and it's my opinion that I have the right to criticize it. :D

Anyway.

King Crimson > Can.

Yes > Roxy Music, mwahahaha.

Brian Enos work with Robert Fripp, anything else Eno has done.

Led Zeppelin are a great band, and yes here that IS an unpopular opinion.

I love U2, Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, Pearl Jam and most bands Urban and over a third of the MB populice dispises.

And chances are I loath many of the bands you do like.

Modest Mouse is the worst band in music history, anyone who disagrees is just wrong. Bad guitarist, bad bassist, bad drummer, bad vocalists, bad lyrics, bad melodies, there is nothing positive you can say about them, and if you do have something postitive to say, chances are I will dislike you as a person.

Metallica may be overrated, but they are still better than any extreme metal band I have ever heard.

Nirvana do not f*cking sound like Pixies, and as opposed to the well regarded belief among Indie losers, Nirvana make better music as well.

Oh yeah, and Pixies are goddamned overrated as holy f*ck here, there and everywhere (intentional Beatles reference).

Nick Drake is an incredibly dull "musician" with a voice like a robot who strums over a poorly tuned accoustic guitar he dosen't even know how to play all the while trying to be all "personal" and "emotional" and failing miserably.

Most Emo dosen't suck balls, but most Indie sure as hell does.

Megadeth are talented, but I still find them completely unlistenable.

Johnny Thunders is NOT a very good guitarist, even if his punk rock influence should not be ignored.

Why this will hurt my prog cred greatly, I find Marillion to be incredibly dull, Steve Rothery is a pretty good guitarist though, even if he is a shameless Gilmour ripoff.

Gilmour > Barrett.

Everyone here loves Simplicity, nothing wrong with that, I just find Complexity to be more rewarding.

I don't care how good a songwriter you are if I can't even f*cking listen to your vocals, as far as I'm concerned, Leonard Cohen is trash.

Interpol are worse than Nickelback.

TheBig3 10-12-2006 10:29 PM

Here or in the real world, if you're new, please understand that peoples opinions on MB are not actually common place.

boo boo 10-12-2006 10:32 PM

But it is commonplace here, many people on MB do share extremely similar opinions, even if they are uncommon in the outside world.

And thats pretty much what I focused on, opinions that are unpopular HERE.

And I figured that was the purpose of the thread, pretty much everything everyone else has said are things that everyone here agrees with, so they're not actually unpopular opinions on this forum.

Another Green World > My Life in the Bush of Ghosts.

enemyat_thesix 10-12-2006 10:51 PM

Well, in circles around here, my execration of Between the Buried of Me is quite unpopular.

Seltzer 10-13-2006 06:22 AM

Andy Latimer (Camel) > Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd) - but both give me musicgasms.

Led Zeppelin is a great band (like Boo Boo said).

Alice in Chains is the best grunge band (not a terribly unpopular opinion).

Phil Anselmo is a great vocalist.

Signals is one of Rush's best albums.

I like Coldplay.

Thelonious Monk is one of the best jazz pianists ever (probably not that unpopular).

Toto is cool.

The Strokes are a good alternative rock band. Yes, I said it.

One Hot Minute is RHCP's best album apart from BSSM, and possibly Mother's Milk.

King Crimson is one of most incredible genius amazing musicgasmic mindblowingly awesome bands in existence.

John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess are capable of writing interesting music.

The Eagles are great - I enjoy them a lot.

The heaviest music on Earth is doom metal.

Can isn't that unlistenable.

Joe C0cker's covers are awesome - and his cover of 'With a Little Help from My Friends' is better than the Beatles' original.

Velvet Revolver is a kickass band.

I like U2 - but they are horribly overrated.

I agree with nearly most of this, except C0ckers version of WALHFMF being better than the original and Toto being cool.

And Latimer is a much better guitarist than Gilmour technically, though I still prefer Gilmour and consider him to be the greater guitarist, and with more lasting appeal, afterall, few people know who Latimer is, not that it makes him any less good, but it does mean he lacks in the impact/influence departmen, regardless it's nice to know me and Les are not the only Camel fans around here. And I personally consider AIC the be to least best grunge band of the big 4, but that's just me.

Also I don't really consider One Hot Minute to be among RHCP's best, though it does have some of the most f*cking amazing bass playing I have ever heard.

Urban Hat€monger ? 10-13-2006 08:51 AM

*Ponders if he should start another Tool are f*cking awful '''''debate'''''*

:D

riseagainstrocks 10-13-2006 09:08 AM

Tool are one of the worst bands in the existence of music.

Extreme metal is the future of technicality and expression. There are some that do it poorly, but the ones that get it right (Atheist, Element, Corpsefier, Cryptopsy) are unbeatable.

Led Zepplin are THE most overrated band in the history of music.

With the exception of 4-5 bands, everything that is 'real' Screamo and Emo sounds the exact same, says the exact same thing, and are simply propogating a genre of music that was designed to die out.

Punk died in the 80's.

Rock died in the early 90's

Mr Sensitive 10-13-2006 09:28 AM

Emo is more of a trend for melodramatic teenagers than a music genre, I've listened to both the mainstream and the 'real' stuff and I refuse to believe that anyone can enjoy it on any level.

Black Holes and Revelations is Muse's best album.

However, Matt Bellamy probably has one of the worst singing voices ever.

Dragonforce make laughingly bad musc.

Meh, that's all I can think of right now.

If you think rock could actually die at all, then it's pretty clear to me that you're not very bright.

Rock was actually doing considerably much better in the early 90s than throughout the 80s, regardless it certainly wasn't dead, it's not dead now, and it never will be... Regardless of how bads the scenes may be, genres can't actually die... Though it's understandble that you say it died in the early 90s because you are a grunge hater, dispite the fact that I am a grunge fan I have no intention of getting hostile unless you become abrasive about it... I will be easy on you, dispite the fact that Atheist sucks total ass.

I also don't see extreme metal being the future of expression anytime soon... Hence, no one genre will be the basis for artistic expression, as people express themselves in different ways, they do it through different genres of music, so what you just said is incredibly stupid.

riseagainstrocks 10-13-2006 10:18 AM

Rock as it is today is simply a rehash of ideas that were invented and perfected along time ago.

Same with Punk, Hardcore, most Metal, Hip-Hop, WAM, etc.

They all had a message that was time specific. There are bands that play the style, but there is not the same meaning behind it.

And Atheist suck? Do you even listen to/play music?

And yet extreme metal is so original.

Rock has changed, oh my, it must be dead.

One reason I dislike so many metalheads, everytime I diss a band they like, it automatically means I don't know anything about music, this is pretty much all you people know when it comes to rebuttal skills, quite sad really.

riseagainstrocks 10-13-2006 10:27 AM

I definitly said most metal. And if Extreme music had better production you'd probably think different. Go listen to Cynic - Focus. Go listen to Necrophagist - Epitaph.

And it was simply a question. If you look at what they're playing, Atheist are one of the most musically talented bands ever. Roger Patterson = a bass god. If you don't play music or if you've only heard a song or two, you might not realize that you are incredibly wrong.

Never said they weren't talented, I strongly believe it's possible for a band to be very talented and still make bad music, as opposed to most people here who believe that if you make bad music, you cannot have talent, I see this as being dumb, because talent can be objectified, music quality cannot.

I view musical quality with complete subjectivity (not that anyone can judge music quality objectively, but most people claim to), and god forbid I shouldn't have to repeat the phrase "in my opinion" all the damn time, though it may be necessary to do so, in order for there to be no confusion over weither or not I'm trying to pass these things off as actual fact, which is common among a lot of people.

Then there we differ. If you don't listen to Extreme Metal, don't make judgements on it. You don't know what makes a good song for that style. You can not like a band all you want but when you spout trash like

I'm going to call you out on it.

Alo 10-13-2006 02:06 PM

Radiohead is overrated. As are the Arctic Monkeys. I get kicked for saying the latter.

Muzak 10-13-2006 03:36 PM

I agree with the Modest Mouse, though they do alright instrumentally but I think their vocalist is terrible. He sounds extremely bad live.

Also The Rolling Stones suck.

It would be all too easy, it's got to be the most re-occuring topic in Musicbanter history, well, next to a debate involving Nirvana.;)

As for me, Indie pop bores the shit out of me. Sounds like Coldplay running through a field of daisy's. And you know, I'm all for creativity but not when they dress it up in pink and make it sound like they were holding hands with Elton John at the time of thought.

Yorke wannabes are the scum of the earth.

I hate barks, any vocalist that barks really pisses me off. Disturbed are guilty, Metallica is guilty. Yuck.

Guitars that sound like they belong in an arcade game like Streetfighter are the pinnacle of bad sounds.

There are only about 6 songs in total that I like from In Utero, Incesticide and Nevermind combined.

I find Grunge is generally awful. I could round up probably 20 decent grunge songs and the rest is just dry oatmeal.

I love doom but I don't particularly like drone.

The Mars Volta are awesome but I don't like listening to them.

That accent (usually found in some form of punk) that sounds like a 16 year old american boy whose testicles are on the verge of dropping. Thats not entirely specific, but it's just anything from the vocals of Greenday to Simple Plan to AFI. Those vocals that scream "Yes, I am the last person on earth".

Dave Grohl is a fucking loser.

Nelly Furtado pop is 10 times better than Nickelback rock. And I hate Nelly Furtado pop.

Since metal and indie lose out in this post, I thought I'd even things up and say Rush and Yes are incredibly boring. I like prog, but theres just some stuff where I draw the line. Technically they're good mumble, mumble, mumble but god they just don't do anything remotely entertaining.

'Real' Emo is truly awful. I'm sure that all of the bands which were listed in the Emo education thread were important to the recent history of music, but its beyond me why anybody wanted to follow them. Pop featuring skinny guys with dyed black side parting is much more listenable.

Shakira, Kelly Clarkson, The Sugarbabes, Christina Aguilera and Beyonce are all better than any Death Metal band.

I much prefer seeing Usher do some dance move to watching some fat old punk singer sweat and look angry or perhaps constipated on stage.

U2 and Coldplay may be pretty mediocre, but the Rolling Stones are even more so.

Apart from the Beatles, most music before funk sounded pretty lame in comparison to what has come since and is certainly over-rated (even Elvis and Led Zepellin).

"****" should be an official genre for music which overrides all other factors. Bands like Nickleback, Creed, JJ72, Cast, etc. should automatically be categorised as such, to stop them from polluting other sections. Obviously, **** boy/girl band music won't be included because that would take up too much room in the **** section.

I've read through this thread and almost every person who said they real emo is **** doesn't like punk much less hardcore punk. So I really doubt you'd understand the progression and why anyone would deem it listenable. No, it's not completely necesary to appreciate punk to be able to appreciate hardcore and it's not necessary to appreciate hardcore to completey appreciate emo but, if you don't then you're missing a big piece of the picture.

boo boo 10-13-2006 10:24 PM

2 points for you man that was a funny one and 3 points for your grammar.

For the most part Metal is completely boring. There's an occassional decent band here and there and I have a fondness folk and doom so I'd 60% is either unlistenable wankage, written by people who aren't good enough to wank or, predictable crap that comes straight from theory.
