When referring to a music scene in Myrtle Beach, it's more of a "lack thereof" situation. I've been playing music in this town for almost 13 years, and I've seen a lot of bands of all genres come and go. It's not really the people's fault, either. Well, partially it is.

Myrtle Beach isn't really set up physically to be the kind of place where young people can walk around, exchange ideas and create an artistic identity. Myrtle Beach and it's suburbs are kind of like one moderately-sized city stretched out over about 20 miles of coastline. There's not really a center. There is a five points district, but it's tiny and only has a couple of clubs that are worth playing, and they're both small (50-200 people).

The people who will never give up on the scene are the little hope that the local scene has, and there are a lot of people who I respect and love here, but they are not the majority. The majority of people in Myrtle Beach are, for lack of better words, "preppies" or "fashion whores". Canned music dance clubs are what's bigger here. It's basically disco town; get drunk, buy shit and fuck strange ass. If that's what you're into, I don't give a shit, but I'm looking for something more, and that's basically why we're packing up our gear and heading out west the Austin, Texas.

I always liked Bar Fly in Liverpool. The Carling Academies in Liverpool and Manchester tend to have some good bands on but I haven't been to a live show in about a year.

The Cavern Club in Liverpool has the odd good act on but alot of the time it's very poor quality.

^ Wow, very similar indeed! That place is huge though. Looks amazing, too!

That picture makes it look bigger than it is somehow. But, yeah, good place. It was originally built as a big band dancehall back in the 20s, and when it's not hosting rock shows, it's still used regularly as a Mexican dancehall to this day.

And I saw Primus play a different show at that very same venue right around that same time. :)

Albuquerque consist of about 30000 douche-bag emo/screamo bands.

My favorite local act in Connecticut is a young kid who performs and records under the name "sadnes"

He uses guitar and a Nintendo Entertainment System to produce really awesome lo-fi electronic sounds. Check out his facebook

Anyone else here from NYC? There's this guy on the radio here I started listening to because I (and a LOT of PJ fans) thought he was giving away Pearl Jam tickets (but he didn't, which REALLY pissed me off). I went to the PJ show at MSG this past weekend and apparently the guy at the NY Post wrote a bad review of it. I don't read the NY Post though, I know this because this guy absolutely RAILED on the review and the guy who wrote it live on the air, it was glorious. It was Rich Russo on his show Anything Anything, Sunday nights, from 9PM to I think 11? on 101.9 WRXP. The guy goes off on stuff like this all the time, I think his deal is he doesn't have a supervisor and can say anything he wants (Get it? Anything...Anything? :D) Anyway, as a die-hard PJ fan, this Rich guy has a new fan in me, haha ^^

Slightly more on topic, one of my favorite venues here in NYC is Rockwood Music Hall on the Lower East Side. They have a different band there every, like, HOUR, from 6PM on, weekdays AND weekends. Awesome. This band I really like, Benyaro, is playing there Thursday night, June 8th, yay! Anyone else happen to be going to that show?
