Classic albums any true music fan should own or at least listen to (singer, country)

But what about those albums that had an instant impact?

Look at Nirvana`s Nevermind. As much as i`m not really a fan of it it`s impact was instant.The same with Never Mind The Bollocks.
Massive Attack`s Blue Lines came out in 1991 , by 93/94 Trip Hop was an established genre.
The Smiths had more magazine covers between 1982-1987 than the Beatles did throughout the entire 60s.
How long was it before we had sh*tloads of Radiohead clones after OK Computer? I started seeing them as early as 98/99.

Like I said influence is one thing , but it`s not the only thing.

But were those albums (and maybe they were, I'm actually asking) literally considered classic only a few years after initial release? I'm not saying influence is the only factor. But I am saying that a classic has to endure and be beloved long beyond the first few years after it comes out. Sometimes influential music is forgotten...it took many years for bands like the Velvet Underground and Big Star to be properly recognized.

Yes , exactly .I don`t see the point in excluding them just because they`re not old.Bands that make that much impact don`t get forgotten about regardless of whichever genres become in vogue in the future.Grunge has been dead & stale for years but people don`t forget the contribution Nirvana made.

I think there's basically nowhere left for this argument to go. I just can't see attaching the word classic to something new. It goes against definition and connotation. You don't feel that way because of the immediate impact some albums have. Even though I disagree, I think both are fair points. So, maybe some more people will weigh in on this and we can reach some kind of consensus.

Since I've become knowledgeable about the great world of music I haven't really encountered any albums that have had as great an initial impact as Nevermind, but I will admit that it occasionally does happen. Still, I think this happens very rarely and it's probably wise to exercise caution before declaring any album a "classic."

Up for debate in accordance to the new rule:

Screamadelica- Primal Scream (2001)

I didn't think about it because I have it on record, but it is pretty ****ing sweet. There are so many genres blended in this album to create a this sound which is so different from music I have heard before.

It didn't come out in 01 it came out in 91.
