Is this some kind of competition for us to all prove how obscure and underground we can be?

Whats the prize? Moe Tucker's drumset?

Seltzer 02-15-2007 06:18 AM

Wow, did your mother drop you on your head as a child? King Crimson and Radiohead definitely do not deserve to be anywhere near that list.

The bands he listed are hardly underground, thanks for playing though.

Tastes can be cliche, most things can be cliche. I've seen people like him who worship the SAME exact bands over and over.

I have no problem with popular music, I listen to Pieces Of Me frequently, and like Blink 182 and Avril Lavigne.

You like Blink 182 and you're giving me a hard time?

King Crimson isn't on the list, Tool Belt. Learn how to read.

I'm older than you and when I was listening to REM and U2 -- they were considered small, obscure bands. Not my problem that they became popular and ended up defining the alternative sound of the 80s and beyond.

It's just funny that you try and diss such great bands like Journey and Culture Club and then you say that you listen to Coldplay and AC-DC.

You clearly don't know very much, and the fact that you are older than me means little to nothing.

Sneer 02-15-2007 08:13 AM

whoooooooa, if theres one thing i do agree on its thats culture club and journey are bad, bad, BAD bands.

I could be much more obscure and underground then that.

So could I.

AC/DC's "Back in Black" is a classic hard rock album.

I do like Coldplay. I also like KC and the Sunshine Band and the Gordan Lightfoot song "Sunrise."

So kill me.

Moon Pix 02-15-2007 01:00 PM

Why write a whole article about stuff you hate in the first place?

ZeppelinAir 02-15-2007 01:19 PM

whats your problem, many of those bands on that list are great, you can not say that Journey and Reo Speedwagon never did any good, never influenced anyone. this is a horrible review of bands, totaly horribe

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-15-2007 01:50 PM

I do actually enjoy reading articles where people spew bile about bands that I like. They`re usually quite entertaining.
However i`m still to read a good one on Radiohead and surprise surprise this one is no different churning out all the usual cliches ......' creep was ok blah blah blah ..... turned their back on guitar rock to make pretentious art school crap blah blah blah .... thom yorkes nasal voice blah blah blah'.

Actually I do think the only reason Radiohead were included on that list is to make people read it because the rest of it is just full of dull stadium rock bands that people have not given a sh*t about for well over 2 decades.

If Back in Black is a classic hard rock album, than I could write a classic hard rock album. All I need is one good rift that I can use over and over again and i'll be as good as them.

You said you were considering putting King Crimson, Yes and ELP on, but put Asia on instead. Hence why I said King Crimson shouldn't be anywhere near that list - not on that list... Tool Belt.

I don't know if your referring just to crowquill or the collective you, but if you are referring to the collective you here is my answer to your question.

I believe a good number of people on this site spend a fair amount of time listening to music that they like. All of this time spend listening to music turns them into music elitists, so they often find most people's music choices pathetic/weak, hence the fuming. And in most of the the music threads you do see intelligent, very musically informed conversations take place on occasion, but most of the time it gets buried beneath the countless dismal newbie posts and uninformed music posts. But then again, I know only 2 or 3 people who are competent in music, so I guess I shouldn't expect everyone on this site to be fully competent in the majority of genres of music.

There should be an answer to your question in that small rant.

Cheese 02-16-2007 12:35 AM

Call me weird, but I'm hardly going to listen to something i don't like now, am i?

Admit that Tool Belt is kind of fun to say.

Sorry about that comment by the way Crowquil. Thats just one of many examples that you may come across from time to time of me jumping in where I dont belong.

sleepy jack 02-17-2007 04:00 PM

Its alrightt

littleknowitall 02-18-2007 08:23 PM

I don't know why anyone would be so hell bent on erasing Europe...they didn't really piss me off at all.

TheUsedToolguy 02-20-2007 05:43 PM

How 'bout ZZ Top and Stevie Ray Vaughan for sucking worse than suck. Technically, they weren't too bad, but I don't like how they were so 'cool'

Of course, I'm kidding, they were never cool outside their own deluded minds.

GhostPhase310 03-01-2007 04:47 PM

yea i agree with most of that

littleknowitall 03-02-2007 06:58 AM

ZZ Top were a fantastic live band, I'd not want them erased. :(

Synth on a plinth 05-16-2019 05:53 AM

Come on now, lumping Styx in with Huey Lewis & The News? At least 'Fooling Yourself' MEANT something, unlike 'The Power of Love' and 'Hip to be Square'.

By the way, if you think that Steve Perry Journey was bad, you should really check out their first three albums without Perry. You might like those.

SMASHING PUMPKINS

Is there a bigger whiner in rock n’ roll than Billy Corgan? He may be the most ego-driven, weak-kneed front man since Boy George. The band’s sophomore effort “Siamese Dream” had one interesting single in “Cherub Rock,” but the rest of the album feels like your reading Corgan’s diary (which one imagines as pink and locked with a little brass key). Their music – a mix of goth, alternative and electronic – generally sounds like yowling cats being crushed in a cement mixer.

Factoid: Billy Corgan worked in a record store in Chicago before forming the band.

Worst Album: Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness

Gag Inducing Song: “Tonight, Tonight” (1995)

The Batlord 05-16-2019 09:32 PM

And...

RADIOHEAD

Radiohead should have been a one-hit wonder for its “not-bad” single “Creep.” Unfortunately, they kept releasing “art” albums and they may be the most overrated, over-hyped band on the list. Radiohead’s music is overwrought, dense, and sounds like it was recorded inside of a toilet. Lead singer Thom Yorke is a graduate of the Steve Perry school of singing.

Factoid: The band members met while attending Abingdon School, a boys public school outside of Oxford, England.

Worst Album: The Bends

Gag Inducing Song: “High and Dry” (1995)

Cuthbert 05-17-2019 04:33 AM

Stone Roses

Oasis

Horrible horrible bands.

DriveYourCarDownToTheSea 05-17-2019 04:32 PM

The Bay City Rollers.

The Batlord 05-17-2019 04:47 PM

Pearl Jam cause even if there are worse bands most of those worse bands wouldn't have formed if they hadn't heard Pearl Jam.
