i was in a production of Grease i was cast as Kenickie and sang Greased Lightening :) (he sings it in the stage production)

i love a good musical

The Sound Of Music (i get chills at the begining....with Andrews in the Austrian mountains....and i cry when i hear 'Edelweiss' i watch this at least twice a year)
Little Shop Of Horrors (it's just such a classic and the cast in the film is perfect)
Cannibal: The Musical (so bad it's good)
Mary Poppins (such great songs, and a very imaginative plot...i just sit and smile when this is on)
My Fair Lady (i love everything about this musical...ironically the reason that Julie Andrews was not cast as the delightful Eliza Doolittle (as she was in the original Broadway cast)...was because she wanted to do Mary Poppins!....so we got two great musicals in 1964 and by two wonderful women!)

Kenickie! :) Good character. And you got to sing Greased Lightening! You lucky dog you, Bob. I used to practice those fun arm motions all the time after I first saw the movie. Better than the macarena! :p:

I've never seen "Cannibal." "So bad it's good" sounds promising. I've seen a very non-professional production of "Little Shop of Horrors" and actually forgot it *is* a musical because I probably was trying to blank out the singing, which I may not have liked.

Speaking of musicals (since we are), I saw "Mamma Mia!" quite a few years ago in Chicago and, having very low expectations, was favorably impressed. The ABBA songs were worked into the drama quite well, I felt, and the plot was fairly interesting...even if it is just a variation of the ol' tired love story plot used over and over again in musical after musical and song after song. At least "The Little Shop of Horrors" has a human-eating plant. That's fresh. :)

Little Shop Of Horrors and Rocky Horror Picture Show are my only two. Good stuff.

i completely forgot about Mamma Mia!....i saw it when it came to Minneapolis with the original cast....which was 100 times better than the cast for the film....which of course is still pretty damn good

just remember the "so bad" part....i've shown it to people who basically told me it is the worst movie ever made....obviously i beg to to differ....the story is fun, the songs are singable and hilarious, and the acting is atrocious!....oh and there are japanese indians in it....spadoinkle!

The Rocky Horror Picture Show! :) I completely forgot about that musical. I think I've always just been too mesmerized by the lead character's sexy outfits to pay much attention to the fact that people are singing. I've just seen the movie version...a classic, of course.

James, do you mean those are the ONLY two musicals you've ever seen? :( Comments like that will make me think you're just 15 or 16 or so! :p:

P.S. I forgot to mention that "Edelweiss" makes me want to cry, too. Isn't it a happy moment when a song or movie can make you sad? :)

Well, I have seen The Sound of Music and The Wizard Of Oz too. I am actually in the school production of The Wizard Of Oz, playing a gay wolf in a dress :D. So I guess they would be on my list too.

I didn't know The Wizard of Oz had been turned into a musical...or that it has a gay wolf in a dress in it! Whoops! I guess I'm behind the times.

You know, James, here's a message for your director: gay wolves don't *have* to wear dresses to symbolize their being gay. I fear your Scottish musical there is perpetuating stereotypes about wolf homosexuality. Many wolves who are gay just look like heterosexual wolves. :p: You really just can't tell, based on a wolf's attire, what his sexual orientation is.

The character isn't actually gay, he just wears a dress. But some of his lines suggest homosexuality imo.

Edelweiss in my opinion proves that Rogers and Hammerstein were the absolute best in the genre.....i watched the Ophrah when she re-assembled the cast...and at the end she had the descendants of the real Von Trapps come out and sing Edelweiss it was incredibly moving....not just how beautifully they sang it but just the reaction from both Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer
