Zorn but not just Zorn, pretty much anybody Zorn has ever worked with. Zorn has the absolutely most amazing network of improvisers/strange composers. He's worked with everyone from Mike Patton to Yamatsuka Eye to Fred Frith to Trey Spruance to Tatsuya Yoshida to Diamada Galas.
I think though Tatsuya Yoshida is another to look into. He's very much the Japanese Zorn/Patton figure. But I've always found Patton extremely hit, and miss, and Zorn has his fair share of eh material. Yoshida, however, seems to be consistent and solid no matter what he works on, except for his two sarcastic comedy projects for obvious reasons. I think he's honestly by far the most underrated figure in the experimental jazz/improv "avant garde" scene. |

It's hard to define weird. I'd say the artist I like most who could be classed as 'weird' is Ariel Pink. But I think he's weirdness has more to do with his willingness to be daring and unique, unlike the majority of the stagnant indie scene. Well actually, he's probably batshit mental. But I put that down to old fashioned genius syndrome.
