Zorn but not just Zorn, pretty much anybody Zorn has ever worked with. Zorn has the absolutely most amazing network of improvisers/strange composers. He's worked with everyone from Mike Patton to Yamatsuka Eye to Fred Frith to Trey Spruance to Tatsuya Yoshida to Diamada Galas.

I think though Tatsuya Yoshida is another to look into. He's very much the Japanese Zorn/Patton figure. But I've always found Patton extremely hit, and miss, and Zorn has his fair share of eh material. Yoshida, however, seems to be consistent and solid no matter what he works on, except for his two sarcastic comedy projects for obvious reasons.

I think he's honestly by far the most underrated figure in the experimental jazz/improv "avant garde" scene.

AMM. The Crypts takes you on a journey you'd never anticipate.

Yeah that's great and as is 6music in general. Don't know why I don't listen to it more actually.

It's hard to define weird. I'd say the artist I like most who could be classed as 'weird' is Ariel Pink. But I think he's weirdness has more to do with his willingness to be daring and unique, unlike the majority of the stagnant indie scene.

Well actually, he's probably batshit mental. But I put that down to old fashioned genius syndrome.

for me it just does not get weirder than Caroliner Rainbow...a tribute band to a legendary singing cow...their albums all come in hand made packaging and often have trash and cigarette butts included....the first time i saw them live i had no idea what i was in store for....right after they started playing all i could think was "why the **** did i smoke that joint?"

in the spirit of weird but worth looking into....their recorded albums...all be it a bit noisy at times are actually really fun in a quirky kind of way...keeping in mind that they are a tribute band to a singing COW...or really the carcass of a singing cow

Quote:
The group claimed to have inherited its entire repertoire from Caroliner the Singing Bull, a magical 19th century creature whose owner took it from town to town, where it performed and learned new songs from the locals. When the owner was forced to eat the bull one lean winter, the remnants of its carcass continued to sing.
for more fun reading look HERE!!!

actaully their albums are really fun to listen to....and them live is seriously unlike anything you have ever seen or will ever see....it is sensory overload to the next degree

lucky for all of you someone has upload my absolute favorite song by them!!!!!!!!...take from the album Rise Of The Common Woodpile

Caroliner Rainbow - Empty Halo

^^I read some 'interview' with the 'members'. My head started to hurt trying to figure out what the hell were they talking about. Crazy

Here's my suggestion: Renaldo and the Loaf, a duo from England, one of those bizarre bands that The Residents signed on to their Ralph Records. Completely hilarious and absurd, they sound like a wackier (if that's possible) and cartoon version of The Residents. From Songs for Swinging Larvae (1981):

This video is like an incarnation of childhood nightmares.
