Well maybe that's the basis of our difference. I owned Selmasongs for years before I finally got around to seeing Dancer in the Dark. Maybe I built it up in my head too much before seeing it because I heard such great things about the movie when it came out and I loved the soundtrack, but I was really disappointed by Dancer in the Dark as a movie. That is definitely something I'd put in the "overrated" category.

underrated?....i fell like they get tons of praise....both critically and by fans of the many genres they burst into....the thing with Sonic Youth is that they deserve every bit of it

It's not that difficult to figure out.
Perhaps not agreeable. But it's an amazing voice, that's why it's "rated". I can't stand Mariah Carey's voice but she can obviously sing.

Are you sure you're not just being a fanboy here?

I don't think there's anything remotely amazing about his voice. It does the job but that's about it.

The guy can't sing. I can understand why some people would like him but it can't be that hard to figure out why some people don't. I've listened to a fair share of whiny voices in a number of genres, but I feel like for me personally, the hype is what ruined Radiohead for me. I went into listening to them expecting something super amazing, and the expectations weren't met.
