They're overrated because they're not very well known? Not sure I follow the logic there.

I'm just wondering, if you like Ween, do you like Beatles at all? They are kinda same-sounding bands?

But overratedness can spoil good bands. I like many of those I pointed out as overrated, I just don't like them as much as I should.
For example, Led Zeppelin. Great hard rock band. Especially their first four albums are great. Such a energy and amazing musicianship. But still, some think they are gods and that's why I think they're overrated. THEY WERE ALMOST UNABLE TO WRITE SONGS
They were limited songwriters and their output is not very diverse. So they really should not be claimed to be 'THE BEST BAND EVER'

Love the Beatles, but Ween doesn't sound like them more often than not. Sometimes they mimic Lennon's vocals, even sometimes explore similar themes to what the Beatles were doing on Sgt. Peppers, but often Ween does their own thing, especially on early releases.

I think Zeppelin is a great candidate to be labeled overrated. I'd even say that they do receive way too much credit for what they did, but they were pioneers of the heavier sound, and were arguably the first heavy metal band.

Frank Zappa is underrated? He's hailed as one of the best guitarists of all time. Would really like to hear why you would think so...

Strange eh?
They're only world famous because they released a horribly overrated one hit wonder. I don't know anything else by them to be quite honest.

What song is this? I looked through a list of their charting singles and none of the song titles were familiar.
Don't think I've ever heard of them before and I agree with everyone saying that they can hardly be overrated when so few people know of them.

Yet he doesn't receive any mainstream attention. How is he not, is really the better question.

I consider Freak Out!, Absolutely Free and We're Only In It For The Money better albums than anything the Beatles or Stones have ever released. Heck, Sgt. Peppers seems to mimic the sound that The Mothers of Invention had a couple of years before.

On the subject of not being underrated because you're a respected musician, I'd say Jimi Hendrix is pretty underrated as well. He has the mainstream success and is often considered an all-time great guitarist, but I think he's overlooked for his influence on heavy metal and just about every guitarist who plays the genre.

In that regard, perhaps not. But regarding he's highly influential, and often listed as one of the greatest guitarists of all time speaks a lot more volume than being mainstream.
