I think DJ is talking about in today's popular industry. The music industry has changed and in today's industry R&B does not sell a whole lot

Overall music is not selling like it use too but country music still sells pretty well.

Beyonce is a pop singer that makes dance/pop music.

R&B use to be a very popular genre but it currently isn't anymore. You can't be a R&B singer and have cross over success nowadays....unless you are white. You have to make dance/pop/rap music to cross over as an African American in todays popular industry.

Sorry but no. Modern pop to very large extent is R&B and has been that way for a couple decades.

I just don't think traditional R&B has been as popular over the last decade and it hasn't.

Mind you, I am not talking about the genre in past decades. I am speaking on the genre TODAY

Why isn't Anthony Hamilton, Chrisette Michelle, Fantasia, Ledsi, Brandy, Maxwell, Eric Benet, Mint Condition, Tamia as popular if R&B is still a very popular genre as you say?

Is it boring because its modern or because its R&B?

R&B was popular in the 80s and early to mid 90's but it is not anymore.

Artists still make R&B music it is just not a popular genre anymore.

Dance/Pop or Rap music is.

Not sure, but why do you think other R&B artists like Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Beyonce, Robin Thicke, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, amongst many, many others, are some of the most popular artists in the music industry? Can you explain how they're so popular, but R&B still isn't a "high-selling" form of music?

Anyways, I think I see what you point is now. Nothing quality is popular. All of the most talented artists are still making good music, because the industry hasn't gotten to them yet, or they've turned down offers to go mainstream. The same can be said of almost every type of music. Rock sucks on the mainstream level too, but to say rock isn't selling would be a lie.

I'm not sure I understand the question to be honest. What I'm saying is that the 80s seem to be the time period when R&B, which up to that point had been a pretty good genre of music, evolved into a style that was generally pretty boring, and it has largely continued on that path ever since.

You keep saying it isn't popular but the facts really don't support what you're claiming. Again, much of the pop music you're talking about is R&B. And a lot of the rap that seems to get really popular lately is rap with a heavy R&B element.
