You might take interest in Three Mile Pilot, particularly their early stuff before they brought in electric guitars. Armistead Burwell Smith IV (aka Zach Smith) of Pinback on bass and Pall Jenkins (who later formed The Black Heart Procession) on vocals (admittedly an acquired taste) and later also guitar. They just released their first album in 13 years today, but they've lost the aggression/darkness they previously had and it sounds more like Pinback. I still like it, and RVCA might too, but for you Violent & Funky I recommend Three Mile Pilot's Nà Vuccà Dò Lupù (1992) or The Chief Assassin to the Sinister (1994). Dark, murky, foggy stuff. It's not bass virtuoso stuff, but it's very heavily bass-driven and unique. You may like it, you may hate it, you may not care one way or another.
