LCD Soundsystem - 10/10

This show took me by complete suprise. I really like their CDs but I was worried the sound on stage would lack its enthusiasm.. and I was dead wrong. James Murphy was not only hilarious in between the shows, but his voice was unbelievable. He sang every song to the T, adding in random percussions on certain songs. The guitarist was from Hot Chip, the drummer was some bad ass who he introduced 5 times during the show. The most notable performances were 'Daft Punk is Playing at my House' and the 'Yeah' songs back to back (including an awesome dueling drums from the guitarist and Murpy).

The Killers - 6/10

This show was a bit of a let down. The Killers were able to perform every song as if it were a replica of the album versions. This sounds good, but it lead to a little bit of a boring live performance. It seemed so over done, like you might expect a Maroon 5 show to be. Notable performance was towards the end with 'Change Your Mind'. Definetly the biggest let down performance of the day.

Cold War Kids - 6/10

This show was somewhat interesting. I enjoyed the music, but the instrumentation was a bit weak, specifically the drums. From what I could see he had the most pathetic drum set I have ever seen in my life. They performed basically the entire album the most memorable song of the performance was 'St Johns' and 'We Use to Vacation'.

Blue October - 4/10

Sat through this junk so that I would have great seats for Arctic Monkeys. Thus I sat down for most of the show. I actually dont mind their earlier stuff that included violins and soft music, but got weired out when they started playing stuff from the new album. It was a lot heavier stuff, with lots of grungy metal sounding guitar licks. The most noteworthy performance of this show was the 40 year old guy jumping up and down going nuts doing the robot to a guy who was talking about self mutilation.

Arctic Monkeys - 9/10

My second time to see the Monkeys was quite a trip (literally). I decided to drop some acid for this show and Muse and it was well worth it. They were flawless and put on another amazing performance. They played about 1/2 & 1/2 of each album. The most noteworthy performance were 'Fake Tales from San Francisco', 'If You Were There Beware', and 'The View From the Afternoon'. Standout instrumentation goes to Matt Helders for laying down so much bass, you think he would have a guitar in his hand and not a set of sticks.

Muse - 11/10

Best show of the weekend by far. Last year at ACL I told a lot of people about Muse and ended up regreting not going when everyone told me what a great show they put on. This year I was gonna see Arcade Fire again, but decided to go with my friends to see Muse. The performance was beyond electrifying. Every song sounded like it was the last level of a video game. The absolute best instrumentation I witnessed all weekend was that of Matthew Bellamy. When he wasnt shreading up some finger tabbing solos that make the panties drop behind his head as he was convulsing on the ground, or using the side of an amp for a slide, he was playing the piano as if he were in a elegant dinning ball room. The lighting effects were out of this world, I was beyond amazed. There even was a little 5 minute jam session completely freelance with no lights or anything. Most all the music played came from the albums 'Absolution' and 'Black Holes and Revelations'. MUSE FTW!

Bloc Party - 7/10

I have heard these guys really put on a good live show, so I decided to check it out. I really prefered Silent Alarm to their newer CD but I figured what the hell. The performance was a little lack luster.. nothing really stood out, although nothing was really bad. I attribute some of my disappointment to my seating, which was a little to far right of center stage to get quality sound from both sides. The song I enjoyed most from this set was 'Positive Tension'.

My Morning Jacket - 8/10

Vocally I dont understand how he does it. Jim James went nuts on the mic. His freaky eccentric voice comes from what sounds like is his head about to explode. They were really fun to watch, they jammed like a metal band just without the metal. It was like watching Jack Black on mute with better music in the background. The performance was better than expected so I was happy with that. Most of the music came from the 'Z' album, but we got a sampling of it all. The best song performance was 'Off the Record'. Due to scheduling conflicts I was not able to see Andrew Bird...until he had a guest performance with My Morning Jacket which was really cool.

Ghostland Observatory - 10/10

If you want to see something that will make anyone and everyone within a sound wave of distance away tap there foot and shake their booty, go see Ghostland. Comprised of only 2 guys, a drummer/dj/keyboardist and singer/dance/guitarist. The lead singers voice is one of the most unique things you can imagine and he dances (no guitar songs) somewhat like Michael Jackson on xtc. They laser light show they had made you think you were at a rave, and you really get caught up in the moment. These guys REALLY KICK ASS and I cannot wait to see them again at Voodoo Fest. If you ever get a chance you must see this show. They only have 1 CD which I have listened to probably 1 to many times still has not gotten old... GO SEE THEM NOW!

Bob Dylan and His Band - 5/10

Ouch, what a disappointment. I was not expecting much, a beaten up Dylan playing some old songs was all I really wanted... but I got even less. Rumors began circulating that he had a cold and only performed because he was the main headliner and both Amy Whinehouse and White Stripes cancelled, but regardless it was BAD. I could barely make out any of his words and I was pretty close. 'Like A Rolling Stone' was a real let down as his voice just couldnt handle the song. The only songs that came out alright IMO were 'Highway 61 Revisited' and 'Ballad of a Thin Man'. I would give him a worse scoring, but his band actually did kinda kick ass. They were breakin it down in a good way.

I made some other shows, but these were either the stand outs or shows I stayed from beginning to end. Did anyone else go? Has anyone else seen any of these bands recently and agree/disagree?

there is a minus the bear show sometime in october. november 3rd and 4th is funfunfun festival which will have of montreal, explosions in the sky, against me, leo and the pharmacist, cat power, girl talk, and some more

Glad to see Muse have some positive talk around them, I've liked them a for a while but many people just talk like they're watered down trash.

I wish I lived in a town that had some interesting shows and bands, I just get crappy modern country.

ya someones bus had a propane tank blow up... it made the wait to get in for some people 3+ hours on day 1, only took me an hour though.
