Best Debut Albums: Final Round: Final Poll

Alright, we're down to the last 5. Heres what happens, all five of these albums get recognized and are ranked according to how many votes they got. (most votes = first, least = fifth, etc)

I vote for the Smiths.

ProggyMan 10-05-2007 11:32 PM

I had to go with Hendrix, as much as I love every one of those albums. Fire Purple Haze, Foxey Lady, Are You Experienced, Manic Depression, Hey Joe...

The Dave 10-06-2007 01:21 AM

Definitely Slanted and Enchanted, such an amazing album.

MoonlitSunshine 10-06-2007 11:28 AM

Funeral. it's almost level...

ProggyMan 10-06-2007 11:31 AM

Poor VU+Nico...

jackhammer 10-06-2007 12:17 PM

Hendrix.

ProggyMan 10-06-2007 12:21 PM

*pumpsfist*

Inuzuka Skysword 10-06-2007 01:52 PM

Yes, Hendrix is winning!

Laces Out Dan! 10-06-2007 03:37 PM

I'm gonna have to vote Hendrix.

ProggyMan 10-06-2007 03:38 PM

Oh yah! Best posthumous album would be an interesting poll as well.

=ladyface= 10-07-2007 04:41 PM

Awww, I missed out on the original votes to get down to a final 5. I've gone for Funeral out of that lot, though.

right-track 10-07-2007 04:48 PM

I'm listening to Funeral right now.
Just to see what the fuss is about.
The only other album I know little about in this final poll is Slanted and Enchanted.

Arcade Fire? Am I impressed?

Not really...it's not providing me with anything I've not heard before.

It's not worthy of being alongside the likes of Are You Experienced, The Smiths or VU & Nico...IMO.

=ladyface= 10-07-2007 04:52 PM

I think the big thing with Arcade Fire is the energy that comes across when you listen to Funeral. The tunes are good, of course, but there's something extra. I think so, anyway. I would...

So, who did you vote for?

ProggyMan 10-07-2007 04:53 PM

No one yet.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 10-07-2007 04:53 PM

i dunno lol ¯\(º_o)/¯

right-track 10-07-2007 04:59 PM

Granted, this is a first listen. Even so I'm not feeling this "energy".
For a debut album it seems musically accomplished enough, but it lacks the obvious impact I'd expect from a contender for best debut album ever.
It certainly doesn't compare to a whole list of albums I could conjure up off the top of my head that failed to make the final poll.

I'm struggling to choose between the three choices I mentioned earlier.

ProggyMan 10-07-2007 05:00 PM

Hendrix! You know you wanna'!

Yeah I have to agree, Funeral is probably the worst album on the poll.

The impact and influence of VU tears me away from Hendrix.

ProggyMan 10-07-2007 05:05 PM

right-track 10-07-2007 05:06 PM

Should I bother voting?

right-track 10-07-2007 05:06 PM

naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

ProggyMan 10-07-2007 05:07 PM

Not if you don't vote for Hendrix!

right-track 10-07-2007 05:08 PM

OK voted...it's in the blood. *shrugs*

ProggyMan 10-07-2007 05:09 PM

:pimp:
I'm suprised you don't like Funeral. I love all those albums meself.

right-track 10-07-2007 05:11 PM

I'm not disliking it. I just don't think it's a particularly brilliant album by comparison.

The bottom line. VU influenced art in music. Hendrix influenced freedom and raw talent. The choice is yours.

Yah, the weakest of the lot. I would replace it with ITCOTCK, and replace
Pavement with The Clash.

sleepy jack 10-07-2007 05:14 PM

You chose the correct album right-track, Morrissey would be proud.

littleknowitall 10-08-2007 05:04 AM

hendrix all the way!

Zer0 10-08-2007 10:17 AM

Jimmy it is

Urban Hat€monger ? 10-08-2007 11:25 AM

Right lets see......

Arcade Fire "Funeral"
Decent enough , best ever debut album? not a chance

Jimi Hendrix "Are You Experienced?"
Probably deserves to be here when you consider it's impact. One of the more worthy albums on the list

Pavement "Slanted and Enchanted"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Sorry but it's going to take more than a bunch of rehashed Fall riffs to impress me.

Smiths, The "The Smiths"
Another one worthy of being on here & I probably listen to it more than any other on the list

Velvet Underground, The "Velvet Underground & Nico"
Groundbreaking , innovative , radical ... but I still think it's sh*t.

Smiths for me I think.

sleepy jack 10-08-2007 04:58 PM

right-track 10-08-2007 05:05 PM

New rule.

sleepy jack 10-08-2007 05:08 PM

As poll starter, I think my votes should count for 6.
