that album (and the Telescopes in general) is completely underrated but such a definitive token to shoegaze with its lush arrangements. one of my favorites, glad you enjoy.

as for me:

Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

i caught up on a (somewhat) recent indie binge, rediscovering the wealth that Spoon has to offer. and i've come to realize that this tops off their collection rather excellently. makes me pine for the release of their latest.

Lies! Raw yes (in a good way), but I don't find it that stripped down. And I think it's well written...it could use slightly better production, but the songs are just great. Worlds Apart is their worst, IMO.

Super_Collider - Head On

Funk yes. The best thing Jamie Lidell has ever been associated with. Teamed up with Chilean techno producer Cristian Vogel, the pair released two albums beginning with this, a joyous and twisted mixture of techno, IDM, funk, and soul.

I've never seen this video. Let us watch it together. Turn up the bass.

Have never been a huge Elvis Costello fan, but I got this for a friend and it's really warming up to me pretty quickly

The comeback, 'Vision Valley', is pretty much more of the same, with flourishes of baroque and all the harmony vocal overdubs that I am a sucker for. Because let's face it another radio-friendly song from these guys with an annoying chorus is not really called for

I only heard the first two records i think at the time. I picked up a physical copy of the first one just last year even though i hadn't listened to it for years because a sparkly, brand new copy was in one of my local records stores for about £3. I haven't heard the last two but my opinion of the Vines was just another early 00's garage revival band with little to no originality but was good to throw on at a party or in a pub or club while having a few beers. They were a lot more aggressive than a lot of "similar" bands around at the time though. I did really like them and could still put that first album now, i actually might today.

Welcome to the Working Week hits hard and really gets you in the mood for the rest of the album despite its short length. I've always thought it's one of the best album openers I've heard because of that.

I'm really digging We Are Scientists 'Brain Thrust Mastery' at the moment. Their videos are also hilarious which is welcome bonus.

you have to take it out of the music press context though, i know what you mean by garage rock revival because i had the free CD that came in NME; it was just a nice contrived label that sold magazines and records for a couple of years wasn't it
i'll stick to my guns and say that Vines were coming from a totally different angle - that first album was ridiculously 60s punctuated with some grunge screamers, i dont see where the Hives or the Strokes fit into the equation with them, probably because they don't!

Listening to the Strokes a helluva lot right now actually, first two albums are still f*cking amazing

You could be right, i haven't listened to them for a long time.

I still love the first Strokes album. The second was a little bit of a let down for me overall but theres certainly some decent tunes on it.
