You're not alone, I gave In The Aeroplane Over the Sea a lot of chances but it just never impressed me. First time it damn near put me to sleep so I figured I'll try it again later, when it's not late at night and thus I won't be sleepy, didn't work. Then I decided to try it while I was stoned, while I can say it definitely enhanced the fun of staring at the ceiling, I still couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about.

Why? You shouldn't be listening to music that annoys you. Do your friends always play it or something?

Yep, your description is dead on. Love this album as well. Sexy Boy and All I Need are both such outstanding songs...but yeah the whole album is great.

But have you ever tried On Avery Island? I've never understood why everyone prefers In The Aeroplane Over the Sea over this one. I mean sure there are some great songs on it, but I can't help but think people go goo-goo ga-ga over it for indie cred, because it's "weird". Again I like it, I just really think the first album is better and warrants equal praise. I also feel it's more accessible as a whole, an easier point of entry. Not that there's far to go with only 2 albums.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

(1994)

Sound like the Auteurs a lot, nice mellow and jangly 90s indie. Includes half-speed cover of 'Boys Don' Cry'. Cheers Bulldog.
