Viva Voce - Lovers, Lead the Way!

Stumbled across this track on my Oasis Pandora station at work and made a note of it in my phone so I would remember to check them out later. I grabbed this album and was very pleased with what I found. It's pretty standard early 2000's Portland area indie-pop but they have a groove reminiscent of Yo La Tengo which is what ultimately sold me.

Heh, I keep forgetting about this band. Years ago I found 5 of their 12" EPs used and I bought them all based on the cover art alone. Great stuff indeed.

I had never heard of the band until you played them in plug. I listened to some of their songs from a different album and they were totally Yo La Tengoish. I need to check out "The Heat Can Melt Your Brain" which has this song..

Holy ****, this is amazing. My album of the year so far and up there with Beck's best work without a doubt.

Principal Edwards Magic Theatre Soundtrack/The Asmoto Running Band
(1969/1971)

Psychedelic folk-prog. Think of it as a mix of the Incredible String Band and a pastoral Amon Düül. The music does have the tendency to sound dated but I think in this case that adds to the charm (and I have heard new bands that try to replicate this sound today with results that are not as satisfactory as those found here). Favorite tracks: "The Kettering Song", "Enigmatic Insomniac Machine" and "McAlpine Versus the Asmoto".

Woods of Desolation - s/t demo

donno why i hadnt heard this sooner. I guess i just assumed it would be a worse version of what they sound like now (blackgaze). But i thought id give it a listen before i hear their newest and wow.. what can i say it blew me away. I can see how they became what they are today but this is just some good old fashioned raw gross lo fi black metal.

Its hard to compare their two styles but I think this might be my favorite thing theyve ever done. Certainly Gateway to Darkness is my new fav song of theirs. Great discovery jeez
