MONOLORD - EMPRESS RISING (2014)
Debut album from Swedish doom band. Trippy, zoned-out, repetitive, riff-assaulting bastard of a record. Very 'Witchcult' era Electric Wizard or 'Dopesmoker' by Sleep, with a low-end rumble that has been frying my brain. Set to drop in April and could easily be one of my favourite records of the year.





SALEMS POT - …lurar ut dig på prärien (2014)
Long, creepy, unsettling heavy psych jams set to drop in April also, with a cover that the Google Gods would probably deem to be too naughty. And with a love of horror b-movies and (s)exploitation films, an official video that the Gods would most definitely not approve of. Have the SFW upload.

John Zorn - On the Torment of Saints, the Casting of Spells, and the Evocation of Spirits

Chamber music combined with free jazz are two genres I wouldn't expect to be blended, but if anyone could do it, it's Zorn. This album is incredible, so incredible that it's nudged its way onto my top five Zorn albums.

Nik Turner - Space Gypsy (2013)

The latest album from Nik Turner, former member of space-rock band, Hawkwind.
This sounds as good to me as anything Hawkwind recorded in the early to mid 70's and after several listens, I'm still digging this one.
Steve Hillage and former bandmate Simon House, add their talents to the album.
Well worth it for any fan of Nik Turner or Hawkwind.

Dean & Britta - L'Avventura (2003)
Dean & Britta is Dean Wareham, formerly of Galaxie 500 and Luna, and Britta Phillips, also a former member of Luna. If Lou Reed and Hope Sandoval had ever recorded an album together (unfortunately this will never happen) I'd imagine it would sound something like this. It's an album to put you in a happy mood.

The Ecstasy of Saint Theresa - Pigment (1991)
Well it's actually a four track EP, but it's awesome, so I'm going to post it anyway. Looking at that cover you know what you're going to get; noisy, blissful shoegaze that takes you to the clouds. They released this a few months before My Bloody Valentine released Loveless, and had they come from London rather than Czechoslovakia they would have been near the forefront of the genre. They decided to switch to electronic music after a few releases but they sound far better here.

Iron Dogs Free And Wild

Canadian band whose music reminds me what I liked best about the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal era of the late '70s-early '80s. This album could double as a soundtrack to a sword & sorcery film. Favorite tracks: "Kingdom Of Steel", "Storm Warning" and "Adversity", but the whole thing is a lot of fun.

Young Fathers Dead

Brilliant new album from the Scottish hip-hop trio. The band has been described as a "Liberian/Nigerian/Scottish psychedelic hip-hop electro boy band" and perhaps that's not far off the mark. The Streets meet Massive Attack, maybe. Regardless, I'm enjoying it from the get-go.

Been meaning to check out the new Young Fathers album, good to hear it's worth my time.
