Behemoth - The Satanist (2014)

Grabbed this some time ago but for whatever reason never really gave it a listen. I've always respected Behemoth, but I only have one album besides this, their 2007 album The Apostasy and I can't say I go back and listen to it on a regular basis. Anyways this new album has been making quite a bit of noise with critics and fans, hailing it as a great album and a remarkable album for vocalist Nergal after being diagnosed with leukemia and how he is choosing to handle it. There's a lot of variety and hard riffs on this album, so if you're into metal then this is definitely something to check out, because I believe it will be the token metal album on a lot of AOTY lists, although the new Agalloch and or Opeth albums could take that honour.

Simon Felice Strangers

Mostly downbeat ballads that invoke a mix of Phosphorescent & Cat Stevens. But the songwriting is both excellent and topical (Iraq, school shootings).

It's good but it's certainly not their best. I think it's a tad over-hyped. At the moment I think if there is any metal album that deserves the obligatory metal AOTY it should be Triptykon's. That ****'s good.

Absolutely agree with you there, I certainly enjoyed that album more than The Satanist, but I do think you should go into it with an open mind, and try to ignore the hype until you listen yourself. I'll admit I'm usually more skeptical of an album these days if I hear a lot of acclaim, or at least go in with raised expectations that only sometimes get met.

Isaac Hayes - Shaft: Music From The Soundtrack (1971)

Yet another of my favorite soundtracks from another of my favorite films. They don't make 'em any better than this!

The Antlers - Familiars

Gorgeous. They didn't disappoint me. It's not quite Hospice level but it's a beautiful dream pop record.

So I knew I would like it, because I love this kind of stuff on a real base level but I didn't believe the hype. I was wrong, I think this is a great album

Ratking - So it Goes

After hearing Pinata by Freddie Gibbs and Madlib, and now hearing this record, I can only see good hip-Hop being churned out this year. Here's to hoping.
