![]() Probably one of the most flat-out fun albums that I've heard. I really need to check out more '90s hip hop if there's more stuff like this. Also, "Quinton's on His Way" is by far my favorite skit on any album. ![]() Model 500 - Deep Space I seem to have taken a huge liking for minimal, repetitive electronic music lately, and this is ****ing beautiful. ![]() Kayo Dot - Coffins on Io Welp, I think that I've found something that might dethrone To Be Kind as my AOTY after a few more listens. This is my favorite Sufjan album. Its stark, minimal acoustic whispering just sits with me better than his more outlandish psychedelic baroque pop. Also, I think his lyrics fit folk music so, so well. Wish he would do a sequel of sorts, or at least another folkier album.

I know people are wary of 'essential' albums, but I've always found them to be a pretty good introduction to well appreciated bands. And I need more funk in my life. Thank you, Louis CK, for featuring one of their songs in your depressing comedy show, digging it.

![]() If there's an album in the world that gives me more of the sheer joy that I get from this one then I've never heard it.

![]() The Black Angels—Passover I got this album several years ago, liked it a lot but for some reason never listened to it much. Lately I've kind of rediscovered it and can't stop listening. Sounds a little like the Velvet Underground playing psychedelic music, if you're unfamiliar. There's a certain doomy quality to it too. |
