L'Orange & Jeremiah Jae - The Night Took Us In Like Family (2015) Really digging this right now on my first listen, what a nice surprise. I was first made aware of it when someone added it to the anticipated albums thread. After seeing it pop up some other place, I decided to check out the samples and liked what I heard. Right now, this is one of the best hip-hop albums I've heard in some time - abstract, boom bap, conscious, jazz rap. Great beats, great rhymes, awesome use of vocal samples, and minimal use of derogatory terms. The production and sample usage reminds me a lot of MF Doom and Madlib, as well as some of the more hip-hop oriented work released by Ninja Tunes like DJ Vadim, Sixtoo, and also Wax Tailor. It's really smooth and feels like a lost classic. |

Polar Sequences by The Higher Intelligence Agency & Biosphere well donno how much longer ill be able to dig this for (its an uncharacteristically cold day today and summer is no place for winter ambient) but for now its perfect. I mean hell this album was literally made and performed on top of a mountain. you can actually hear the sounds of the cable car moving or the wind whistling in the background. could very well be my favorite thing Biosphere has ever been involved with, which is obviously no small feat. don't quote me on that tho, everything he touches is gold. |

The Magic Whip - Blur Please, PLEASE, someone make my day & tell me they don't love this album. I'll kill a minority. |
New Alabama Shakes album is really good. A little more psychedelic than their first record (also a good album). I love her voice.

Killing Joke - Night Time (1985) It's no secret that I'm a huge Killing Joke fan, but I've always preferred their heavier stuff to their more post-punk/gothic rock material from the mid-to-late '80s. I'm beginning to realize that maybe that was an oversight on my behalf because I am really digging the sound on this album. I've always loved "Love Like Blood" but the mood of that song really shines through the entire album. All that said though [i]Brighter Than a Thousand Suns (1986) and Outside the Gate (1988) are still wank. |
