I don't know if I'd call that wank.

I meant post rock guitars. That's a good fusion record though. Chic Corea is sex.

I couldn't even listen to the whole thing. I like Return to Forever and I like some of his other output but this album just goes nowhere.

And yeah post-rock guitars don't strike me as showing off on the regular.

The moral of the story is that you should listen to Utopianisti.

For me, jazz-fusion doesn't get much better than Pat Metheny's stuff, especially anything from the Pat Metheny Group. He's so talented that even when there is "wank" you don't really care.

Utopianisti, The Cinematic Orchestra, Gary Willis, etc. are all great examples of modern jazz-fusion in any case. Definitely a genre worth diving into regardless of the era.

Dr. Octagonecologyst by Dr. Octagon

for the longest time this album really didn't do anything for me. but something kept it around on my pod and sometime last year the shit stuck. long gone are my feelings that this is super lame and gimmick-y (well I guess it still is, but perfectly so). It's perverted and fucked and weird as hell but damn if isn't infectious. quickly rising amongst my favorites of hip hop. even the skits are great :0

Abominable Putridity - The Anomalies of Artificial Origin

First slam death metal album I've heard that I don't yawn at. Everything about it is ****ty: the constant, chugging, slam riffs, the almost as constant breakdowns, the gurgly vocals and pig squeals, the monotonous songwriting. But all those things are also fantastic and fun as ****. Best brutal death metal band I've found since Benighted and it's stayed on my music player almost constantly since last night.

For some reason the only Kool Keith album I've listened all that much to is Sex Style. It's trashy as **** but totally deserves to get way more recognition from all the critics who gush over Dr. Octagonecologyst. But I do need to make time for Kool Keith in general.

Ninetales 01-20-2017 10:26 AM

^ the only other one that I have is Dr. Dooom's First Come First Served which is definitely good (and good lord has an amazingly horrible album cover) but hasn't struck as much as Dr. Octagonecologyst. Im not sure how much of his dicog I could sift through, the style usually isn't my thing, but maybe that's why I love this one so much. I probably have it on a pedestal that would be hard for another one to reach.

Time? Astonishing! is my favourite Kool Keith record because it has L'Orange on the beats.
