Decided to revisit AIC's Dirt by making it the "car CD of the week"... the disc that stays in the car for roughly the next week or so... been very much enjoying it as I run errands and go to work!!! Always one to take every opportunity I can to have some music playing!!!

Man I miss having a car. :( Since I'm always playing music on my iPod (at work, walking/busing around) or while sitting at home, I'm always switching it up. But in a car, it was easy to leave a CD in for a few days because the time spent in a car is usually limited, you don't get sick of it because it's always interrupted. Of course that's not the only reason I miss having a car, I enjoyed switching it up too. I just miss driving around playing tunes, it's relaxing.

I'll be honest and admit I go the long way to places just to hear more music sometimes, and I just enjoy driving... it also gets me out of the house for fifteen minutes or so when I just need a bit of "self" time away from kids and stuff... don't tell the wife that though... hehehehe.

I was a little hesitant with my first listen. It didn't rock as much as Future Perfect, yet it was still really captivating, or at least enough to keep me listening to the end. When I sat down later with headphones (like this album deserves) I really discovered how deeply layered this album is, with so many sounds going on in the background, each one of them definable with headphones. Six years in the making (some of that time was record label stuff) which interfered with the release date. With a few more listens with headphones I think I'll really be able to dig into this album. Until then here's my favourite song off it so far:

I really enjoyed it too. I feel like they went for a really refined sound this time. Future Perfect was all about picking out the sounds because it was so loud and so fierce. To me Transit Transit feels like they wanted to utilize being quiet and still have it be just as powerful. There is complexity in simplicity and I feel like they did a really good job getting that across.

Was offered up as jazz-pop from the Netherlands, so I took the gamble. While poppier than I'd hoped, the jazz is there and is implemented brilliantly. There's also some good lyrics here, despite there being a fair share songs about the standard relationship bullsh‎it.

I went in hoping for something that would sound like late-80's Steely Dan, and while that's not exactly what I got I was pleasantly surprised with an all-in-all damn fine album that I recommend to anyone interested.

Mizar - Natural Design (2009)

Hungarian jazz-pop trio that do a helluva lot of things I enjoy: they bring some of the exotica that certain 80's contemporary jazz groups like The Rippingtons or The Yellowjackets possessed into a punchier, more rhythmic context (a-la early Jamiroquai or Level 42), and then transforms these hand-me-down influences into grand, cohesive focus with entertaining results.

Oh, and the chick has a fantastic voice also, if a tad accented due to not being a native English speaker. Gotta love Europe!

It was a beautiful moment sitting in the cool shade of the stoop of my house avoiding the sweltering august mid-day heat that Houston is notorious for, yet I was drinking hot coffee and chain smoking hand-rolled cigarettes just the same. There's a perfect soundtrack for just such a moment.

Baths - Cerulean

Some quality Anticon stuff, equal parts glitchy beats and nice and chilled out with some lovely piano sampling.

This sounds good. And coincidentally, someone on another forum I frequent JUST made a thread about Baths with the following video which also sounds good.
