:thumb: for Popol Vuh. Great choice! That album is a departure from their first two which were ambient and space music with heavy use of synthesizers, similar to early Tangerine Dream actually.

Yeah, I heard the first two a while ago but it didn't really click for me and I just kind of gave up on the band. Once I heard Hosianna Mantra I was hooked though. I'm definitely looking forward to exploring more of their discography.

Janelle Monae - The Archandroid

I saw this getting some praise in the Best of '10 thread, so I decided to check it out. Man, am I glad I did. This is nothing short of an intense musical experience. It's one of those albums where you finish listening to it and all you can think is, "Wow...what just happened there." This album should win every award in the book. Truly amazing.

I also just found out she came to my school with Snoop Dogg this past August and I FREAKING MISSED IT. Wow, talk about a major disappointment...

Absolutely mind blowing/life-altering/amazing. I don't even know where to begin. The way every instrument fits together, it's like organized chaos, and it's the most beautiful thing I've ever heard.

Oh, and my favorite song from the album (although this is liable to change pretty soon):

When the solos start at :53 Mingus's bass line is like a fucking train. Man, after an opening like that if you weren't an amazing musician imagine how frightening it would be waiting for your turn to take a solo. I've been in situations like that and it definitely isn't a pleasant feeling haha.

After about two years of being an avid Werner Herzog fan, I've finally gotten around to downloading Popol Vuh, and now I'm wondering why it took me so long. An ambient/krautrock band from the 70s, Popol Vuh's music is ethereal and soft yet lush and elaborate, combining a lot of synth work with traditional instrumentation form pre-Columbian (hence the Maya band name) and Asian cultures. Very spiritual stuff.

Make that two :thumb:. That album takes me places. Lovely guitar work too. Been listening to a lot of Krautrock recently especially Future Days.

Also been seeking out a lot of the original British version of post-rock and I'm liking:

Pram - The Stars are so Big The Earth is so Small . .Stay as You Are (1993)

Bark Psychosis - Hex (1994)

The3 latter Pram album is more accessible and sounds Krautrocky in parts. Will appeal to fans of Stereolab and Broadcast. Bark Psychosis are brilliant and remind me of late Talk Talk.

(Couldn't find anything from albums above)

I really love this album. Probably my personal number one for 2010. Glad you liked it too!
