Arms & Sleepers - Nostalgia for the Absolute

I bought this on a whim, hoping it would be less pop oriented than Matador. Well, it ended up being the most Ambient driven album they've done thus far. It has barely any percussion at all! Oh and it's also unbelievably dark.

Thanks! It always makes my day to hear that. And Asobi Seksu definitely deserve the exposure!

I've been meaning to check out Ghost. Thanks for a reminder. They're like Acid Mothers Temple, if I'm not mistaken.

They're somewhat similar, yeah. I haven't quite heard enough of AMT yet to really say too much about them, though. Although I have seen them live, which was fantastic!

Ghost are excellent, though. Well worth checkin' out.

Exceptionally good songs adeptly played by a highly capable blues-rock band with not a wasted second on it. Tremendous stuff.

I downloaded that when it leaked at the start of January and i was fairly satisfied with it. It doesn't quite have the edge of Citrus but it's a very welcome addition to their catalog. 'Perfectly Crystal' is an immense song with killer vocal hooks.

Isn't it about death and insanity and going to hell and stuff?

I haven't listened but I thought it was considered pretty dark.

I listened to Citrus so many times when it first came out that I'm still a bit worn out on it. I agree it has an energy that the later albums don't, but I think that's a good thing. Citrus left me completely satisfied, so I'm done with that sound. I think they are getting much better at making very intricate music which is something I wish more shoegaze bands did. Sure, a wall of guitars sounds cool but sometimes you gotta back it up with some musicianship.
