Blind Melon - Soup

Up until a few weeks ago I thought they were only known for No Rain. I'm glad to prove myself wrong, this is excellent.

Damn this might be the best album I've heard all year.

Take a band from the USA.. and then apply elements of the No Wave movement and the New Wave movement. Now I want you to picture it in 1976. This is what that band would sound like... To be a bit less vague, I'll say that this album is a mixture of protopunk, psychedelia, experimentation, electronic music, jazz, and dada poetry. It's extremely unique, both for a release from 1976 and just in general. If you want a "WTF" album to listen to, then I suggest you check these guys out.

I liked this album better than the first one. "Toes Across the Floor" alone beats it for me. Their best album.

Oh my god, this Big Black live album is so unbelievable, I cannot stop smiling but at the same time I feel like I am going to cry. I am hearing purity, unadulterated truth, I am hearing everything that is real and this is more wonderful than all the drugs and all the sex in the world. My cheeks hurt, I'm smiling so damn hard.

HOLY.

CRAP.

I have only listened to the first three songs of this album and this is by far some of the MOST FREAKING AMAZING STUFF I have heard in a good while. Just... argh I have no words.

Thank you, Il Duce for posting about this guy's first album, because you made me check him out. THANK YOU SO MUCH

Cloudkicker is a one man band ... I'm fairly sure his name is B.M. Sharp, where he has more albums, but he does instrumental post-metal I suppose I would call it.

This album Beacons is great, to me, because it tells a story from beginning to end with excellent instrumentation. Oh, and it's free. I think all his work is free. Or most of it. Really poignant. Great for driving or sleeping to.The track titles are spot on in describing the feel of the album:

1. We are going to invert...
2. Here, wait a minute! Damn it!
3. We're goin' in. We're going down.
4. Oh, god.
5. I admit it now. I was scared.
6. We were all scared.
7. Push it way up!
8. ...it's just wide-open field.
9. It's bad. We're hit, man, we are hit.
10. Amy, I love you.
11. untitled

The second video is a multi song... It covers tracks 5, 6, and 8 for some reason. Track 7 might be my favorite, but you'll have to check it out yourself if you like what you hear so far...
