Not as mindbending/interesting/good as the first one, but still a damn fine work. |
Frankenstein Girls Will Seem Strangely Sexy - Mindless Self Indulgence
It's a great album, and the songs are just as the name is. :) |

So it's cheesy folk-pop. Sue me :p: Although Bob Dylan was coming out with some total tripe at this time, George Harrison and Roy Orbison's albums were good at best, and the less said about Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne's recent works the better, this is one of very few albums wich is guaranteed to cheer me up whenever I hear it. Margarita's a killer song too. |

Madlib - Shades of Blue
Saw it on the page before this one, got it and love it. This will probably be on rotation for a while. Also Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu - Gurrumul I saw a performance on his on telly a while ago and was very interested but only picked it up recently. Silly me. |

Perfect music for a laid-back, rainy afternoon. |

alot more awesome when i listened to it this time |
Japanther - Skuffed Up My Huffy
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000ULQUTO.jpg Wow. What an awesome sound. Reminds me a bit of Death From Above with the bass and drum combo, but Japanther is much more "noisy". I love their use of samples too. '$100 Cover' is a great song... |

One of the few albums that both my father and I agree is near impeccable; amidst a lot of lame AOR that raped airwaves around the late 70's, this sucker still burns nicely in the present day. |
One of the most brain-meltingly immense mindfuck albums and absolutely spot on for this time of night. Kinda wish I'd heard it when I was doing the top 100 now. "Everyone knows that you are fucked up, and everyone knows that I am fucked up, but does anyone know that you are more fucked up than me?" |
^ Latter-day Swans is sooooo good, makes their eternal '80s output sound like trash. And considering how good their early material was, that's certainly saying something. Public Castration Is a Good Idea, White Light from the Mouth of Infinity and The Great Annihilator are all fantastic too.

Choir Of Young Believers - This Is For The White In Your Eyes
"Hollow Talk" is definitely my favorite song. I love the way it builds up and the fact that the song is both melancholic but also somewhat hopeful. It's such a beautiful album! last fm describes them/him as "somewhere between low key folk and orchestral indie pop".. usually i like music to be simple, but even though they use lots of different instruments and the music gets a little grandiose sometimes it doesn't bother me at all with this album :D |

Absolutely gorgeous stuff. As far as classical piano goes, it's a lot less crazy than some of the Rachmaninov I've heard, yet so richly textured and colourful. Straight out of the top drawer then (judging by the first listen at least). |

Erik Satie is probably the best, and most well know, of the 'impressionists' (he does a mean Christopher Walken). It really is a different mood to most other piano based compositions, I can't listen to too much of him in one sitting but he is great in short doses
|
Yeah, I was expecting much more lively, virtuoso stuff like the other piano composers I've heard. Can see how listening to this all day can drag on, but fortunately even the compilation I've got's a fairly small dose - looking at the running time of each track, it can't be any longer than an hour in total (which funnily enough's another thing that surprised me about the guy).
Either way, I'm having one of those nights when I don't really know what I feel like listening to, and Satie's great for that kinda situation. |
Yeah I gotta be in the right mind to listen to him, but he's great when that mindset is reached. There's no doubting how powerful it all is despite it's simplicity
|
So far tonight i have very much enjoyed the wonder that is devin Townsend's Addicted... heavy but so darn good and FUN to listen to, and now i just got done listening to regurgitator's "Love and Paranoia" album.... what next, i wonder...Might go for some Arcade Fire..... hmmmm...
|
Yep, went for some Arcade fire - Neon Bible, in fact! Should be most enjoyable indeed!

Tis really good from what I've heard so far... |
I liked This is my Truth... but I dunno, didn't love it... it had some great melodies on it and even some good lyrical ideas but i dunno, I found it a bit too bland and vanilla in places... that's not to say it wouldn't be a wonderful listen to another... it's just not my thing really, not really a fault of the album itself...

Crime In Stereo "I Was Trying To Describe You To Someone"
http://www.decoymusic.com/images/alb...one_medium.jpg I'd never heard this band before and based on their description I went into this album with expectations of a fairly decent though not necessarily memorable punk album and came out pleasantly surprised at how much better than that it was. I'd almost say it's more on the indie rock side of things than hardcore punk. |

...I've heard The Holy Bible is a great album by them, and their best. I want to hear it, can't believe I'd never listened to them before... |

Recent favorite of mine. From nu-jazz to trip-hop to IDM, this release touches upon a variety of electronic genre thresholds and weaves them into a dozing, electrical tapestry of awesome. Ideal nightowl music for you all methinks! |
DISTANToblivion.... thats cool! no worries!!! Ya know i also should take a second listen to that CD and evaluate it as an older more opened minded individual... I was definitely keyed in to a much different musical asthetic at the time I bought it, if I remember rightly...

Jetscreamer - Starhead I like this album . It's like the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion with avant garde leanings. This came out in 2003, as far as I can see it's the only thing they released sadly. |

Smith Westerns- Smith Westerns My best friend's brother used to drum for this band, but he quit because they were assholes to him and he never got paid for anything he did. However, I've really been enjoying them lately, and if you did lo-fi rock or t. rex, check it out. |
Miles Davis - Round About Midnight http://www.classicjazzcorner.com/sca...t_midnight.jpg These last few days I've been listening to a lot more jazz than I usually do, so a bit of Davis is kind of a given in that respect. Just the kind of smooth, groovy and nicely lively stuff that it's great to listen to at this time of night. Decent enough album I suppose. A few parts of the album try my patience a little, and it's not as consistently interesting as its followup Underworld. Still nice enough as an unabashed pop-rock album though. Plus it's got 'that song' on it, which is hardly a bad thing. |
I'm smelling a ban soon.

Múm - Finally We Are No One Haven't listened to this in a while. Amazing ambient/experimental electronica. If you have never heard the haunting music these guys can create, do yourself a favor and listen to this: |
