now listening to a recent favorite... Uninvited, like the Clouds - The Church

Brilliant, freaking brilliant! Blends their slower more pensive "spacey" sound with some of their strident melodicism of their early career... it's one heck of a great ride as a listener as you travel between peaks and troughs.... not one single track is a dud though, in fact it's one of the most solid recent Church albums in terms of overall quality...

I can't get over how good this album is.

I've had this on repeat for the past hour, and probably will for the next hour. Really good music, it's very similar to Tegan and Sara, except more acoustic and the songs are faster. But since Tegan and Sara are my favorite band, I was instantly impressed with this.

Dimmu Borgir - Death Cult Armageddon

Words cannot describe how awesome this album is. Some of the best production for out of any black metal album I've ever heard. Seriously this album needs to be used for some dark fantasy movie soundtrack or something because it is PERFECT for it. In fact I think I'm going to murder some trolls with a battle axe right now.

almauro 05-11-2010 01:17 PM

^That's very good. I always felt extreme metal is a positive force in the development of mankind, and you've just confirmed my belief. I'm a big admirer of "Enthroned Darkness Triumpant" and I could use another Dimmu Borgir album to get me in the mood to do some damage.lol.

Mmm the Helmet album I enjoy most...90s classic.

I just love this album. It is so perfect.

It's been a while since I last went on a good Beatles spree. Three of my favourite out-and-out pop albums these.

scottsy 05-12-2010 05:50 PM

I think i have been inspired to listen to Betty myself tonight... :)

sidewinder 05-12-2010 05:54 PM

I may just play it again tonight. The death of my PC has actually done good for me, I'm spending more time with the music that's stuck on my iPod and the few things I've loaded onto my work PC. Some I'm already well familiar with but it's nice to play something a few times even if I'm revisiting it, rather than just once and then back to the shelf (or virtual shelf). It's a bit relaxing to not be grabbing new music and not having my entire collection at my disposal to overwhelm me.

I played Aftertaste the other night too, which is also very enjoyable and perhaps underrated. Need to re-download Meantime as I haven't heard that one in ages, but really I like Betty and Aftertaste more.

scottsy 05-12-2010 05:57 PM

hehehehe.... strangely enough it's the purchase of a new computer that has led to my expanded music listening... i finally have gotten around to loading up all my old CDs as mp3s which, in the process, reminded me of all the great music I have in my possession...

sidewinder 05-12-2010 06:00 PM

I suppose change is good, no matter the direction.

scottsy 05-12-2010 06:02 PM

The other thing is i don't have to search for discs anymore... and in my micropacked apartment those discs are often well tucked away.... it's nice to have my tunes just aq click or two away...

sidewinder 05-12-2010 07:25 PM

Yeah true. However, my computer problems had me glancing over my phyisical collection again...it was nice saying "ooh I wanna listen to this" by browsing things visually rather than just looking at a list of files. Not saying I want to do that exclusively, as it is a pain considering my shelves are overstacked, but it's fun to take a break and go back to the old school method once in a while.

scottsy 05-12-2010 08:32 PM

Too true! Very much enjoying my fix of Helmet's Betty right now.... :)

Z.Z. Hill - The Down Home Soul of Z.Z. Hill

Lately I've really been craving alot of soul and blues music, so a friend of mine sent me a link to of Southern Soul albums. Some fantastic finds there, and that's where I found Z.Z. Hill. This isn't the album that was on the list, but I'm extremely pleased with the one I found. Soul and blues pretty much overlap most of the time, and I think this album is great example of both sounds coming together. Plus, he's from Texas, and I do like to give props to artists from home.

Have a listen if ya care to. There aren't necessarily the best songs on the album, but youtube is limited.

Thanks for the tip off on this one mate, nice voice. And that list of Southern Soul albums is essential!

One of my favorites from them. This song is fucking immense!

A.S.M. - Platypus Funk

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg

The tags hip hop, electronic, trip hop and funk sucked me in and I don't regret the decision one bit. Great album.

Bulldog 05-14-2010 03:21 AM

True to form in this part of the country, it's grim, grey skies and all-round a pretty miserable-looking day, and this album goes so well with it. Such a soothing, gentle vibe to the whole thing, and one of the all-time favs for sure.

A classic from my youth. It's a Prong week, it seems.

I love The Sounds - Dying To Say This To You. Its full of great, fun songs and is a good mix of pop, punk and rock.

scottsy 05-15-2010 07:16 AM

Well for me its kind of been a lot of random track playing on my phone lately as I haven't been home much! I played the heck out of Dear Friends and Enemies by Big Heavy Stuff the other night though...

I've listening to this a handful of times now. I wasn't too impressed with them after listening to Coolin' Off, but Crazyhorse Mongoose was a perfect transition into this album. They are New Orleans Jazz with a bit of hip-hop and loads of funk.

Bulldog 05-15-2010 04:04 PM

The man's career-reviving dabblings in blues, jazz (to an extent anyway), country, folk rock and bluegrass. I must have listened to this album about 500 times over the years, and I'm not even slightly bored of it.

Revisiting an old favorite, one that's beautifully put together and equally beautiful in terms of sampling. Easily among the best electronic albums I've ever heard.
