It's more elitism than irony.

I should have made it Neutral Milk Hotel on this fourm though.

Rumours had been rife around 'town' of an imminent Roses reunion.
Suggestions that Squire and Brown had made their peace after being seen regularly attending United matches together and that tour dates had already been set.

Pity really. :(

Squire rules out reunion

March 19, 2009
FORMER Stone Roses guitarist John Squire has used one of his own artworks to quash rumours of a reunion.

Rumours of a comeback tour for the trailblazing Manchester band, who acrimoniously split in 1996, were rife after a report in a national newspaper.
It claimed they had agreed to play 21 comeback shows but sources close to former frontman Ian Brown, who famously fell out with Squire, ruled out a return.
And Squire, who is now an artist, has poured further cold water on talk of a second coming in the shape of one of his own exhibits.

He has superimposed a statement on to one of his latest steel pieces. It reads simply: "I have no desire whatsoever to desecrate the grave of seminal Manchester pop group The Stone Roses."

The denial was added to a photograph of his artwork, Civilian, from his Luggage series, which is set to appear at Gallery Oldham in July.
It is sure to come as a blow to thousands of fans whose hopes had been raised. Bassist Mani, from Failsworth, hinted at a reunion last year.
Former drummer Reni and Squire were said to be on board but a reluctant Brown was cited as a sticking point.

Thanks largely to their eponymous 1989 debut album, the Roses were one of the most revered bands of the late 80s and early 90s.
It featured anthems such as This is the One, which is still played at Manchester United home games, I am the Resurrection and I Wanna be Adored.
The band then 'disappeared' before releasing Second Coming in 1994. It received less favourable reviews but is still regarded by many as a classic.
Noel Gallagher, from Oasis, has often paid tribute to the role the Roses played in his band's creation.

After the departure of Squire, The Stone Roses split in 1996. Since then Brown has forged a successful solo career.
Squire went on to have some success after forming The Seahorses and released two solo albums before switching his attention to art in 2004.
He will be taking his work to Austria and Tokyo after its appearance in Oldham.
He has also created the artwork for War Child Music's recent Heroes album and his original painting will be auctioned on website eBay from Monday.

The denial comes hot on the heels of statements from those close to Brown.

His booking agent said the rumours were 'absolutely not true' while his record company said he was continuing to concentrate on his solo career.

I would love the opportunity to see The Roses, however I have a feeling any reunion would be a terrible idea.

This thread made me laugh. I'd never seen it before.

Urban Hat€monger ? 03-19-2009 03:43 PM

Thank God for that.

For a minute there I thought i'd have to change the title of the thread to 'Aren't The Stone Roses Sh*t'

I have The Second Coming twice. You can have one if you want Urban?

Urban Hat€monger ? 03-19-2009 04:10 PM

Maybe I'm a bit of a philistine but I just don't get the joke.

I don't get much British broadcasting over here. :(

Gareth Brown 03-20-2009 09:05 PM

I'm English and watch NMTB and i don't get the little in-joke going on.

Urban Hat€monger ? 03-20-2009 09:33 PM

That's because it wasn't on TV.
