TEN STOREY LOVE SONG is one of the best rock songs ever

sleepy jack 12-31-2007 06:37 PM

I would type up a witty response referencing to the mod chat but I'm too busy watching budget late night indie show never mind the buzzcocks with bitter snotty face ill public school boy Simon Amstell.

No celebrity is safe from Simon Amstell's cut ting sarcasm. Here are his best put-downs from Never Mind The Buz z****s:

Foul-mouthed singer Donny Touret te swaggered on to the show then rubbed his groin. He sneered at Simon: "This is how I think of you." Simon replied: "You think of me as a tiny penis?"

"I watched Hollyoaks: In the City last night," Simon told Philip Olivier, star of the soap's late-night spin-off. "Imagine Hollyoaks, but even worse."

Responding to comedian Noel Fielding's line that Courtney Love would "crush you like a twiglet", Simon joked: "Or kill me and make it look like suicide."

"Javine is one of the most boring people I've ever interviewed. And I've interviewed Ronan Keating!"

"Kim Wilde helped to break the world record domino topple. Kim has loved dominoes ever since there was a fee and she was available."

"Penny Smith is my favourite presenter on GMTV - which sounds like a compliment but is a bit like saying she's my favourite member of al-Qaeda."

To Keith Chegwin: "Are you a fan of Katie Melua?" Keith: "I am, yes. And her singing voice is great."

Simon: "You're not still drinking, are you, Keith?"

Simon to Jermaine Jackson: "What about Michael, has he ever done anything weird?"

After playing Girls Aloud's Long Hot Summer video, where the girls dress up as car mechanics, he said: "Waxed, fluffed, full leather interior, slight smell of sick, some rearend damage - it's Girls Aloud."

When Amy Winehouse turned up looking the worse for wear, Simon commented: "This isn't a pop quiz show any more - it's an intervention."
:D

sleepy jack 12-31-2007 07:09 PM

I especially like when he lectures her in the amy winehouse episode about Pete Doherty.

adidasss 01-01-2008 01:50 AM

 Ok, I'm definitely downloading that shit...awesometastic...:yeah:

I meant the show...not the shit band...

boo boo 01-01-2008 01:59 AM

It's great, Simon is my new homosexual hero (srry Marijan you've been bumped to second place.)

The whole Winehouse episode she pretty much gets owned over and over.

adidasss 01-01-2008 05:31 AM

And he's a homosexual...wow, does that mean I have a shot?http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c...gsadeyes-1.gif

Someone cut this and make a Simon Amstell appr. thread...?http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c...gsadeyes-1.gif

jackhammer 01-01-2008 10:43 AM

I just bought SECOND COMING today for £2.97. :D

TheCaster 01-02-2008 11:15 AM

i dont care for them ... but they werent complete ****, one or two good breaks here and there

Friday 01-02-2008 12:18 PM

They just ripped off Oasis! (false)

Oh and Mark Lamarr > Simon Amstell (true). Mark was proper cutting, even about his own show.

I would have paid you £2.97 to take it off my hands

WaspStar 06-30-2008 04:19 PM

I think the real question is: Wasn't "Second Coming" ****? Judging from reviews I've read, that's the loaded question.

sweet_nothing 06-30-2008 05:22 PM

This is the stupidest thread ever. The Stone Roses were of one the greatest bands to ever come out of Manchester and if it werent for the Stone Roses you would of never had gotten bands like Oasis. And The Second coming wasnt that bad it really isnt bad at all but once you release an album as amazing as their first it's hard to make a follow up on that.

In-Jokes rule

jackhammer 06-30-2008 05:55 PM

It's called Irony young man. We Brit's are rather partial to it.

Urban Hat€monger ? 06-30-2008 05:58 PM

It's more elitism than irony.

I should have made it Neutral Milk Hotel on this fourm though.

Rumours had been rife around 'town' of an imminent Roses reunion.
Suggestions that Squire and Brown had made their peace after being seen regularly attending United matches together and that tour dates had already been set.

Pity really. :(

Squire rules out reunion

March 19, 2009
FORMER Stone Roses guitarist John Squire has used one of his own artworks to quash rumours of a reunion.

Rumours of a comeback tour for the trailblazing Manchester band, who acrimoniously split in 1996, were rife after a report in a national newspaper.
It claimed they had agreed to play 21 comeback shows but sources close to former frontman Ian Brown, who famously fell out with Squire, ruled out a return.
And Squire, who is now an artist, has poured further cold water on talk of a second coming in the shape of one of his own exhibits.

He has superimposed a statement on to one of his latest steel pieces. It reads simply: "I have no desire whatsoever to desecrate the grave of seminal Manchester pop group The Stone Roses."

See dodgy art item below.

The denial was added to a photograph of his artwork, Civilian, from his Luggage series, which is set to appear at Gallery Oldham in July.
It is sure to come as a blow to thousands of fans whose hopes had been raised. Bassist Mani, from Failsworth, hinted at a reunion last year.
Former drummer Reni and Squire were said to be on board but a reluctant Brown was cited as a sticking point.

Thanks largely to their eponymous 1989 debut album, the Roses were one of the most revered bands of the late 80s and early 90s.
It featured anthems such as This is the One, which is still played at Manchester United home games, I am the Resurrection and I Wanna be Adored.
The band then 'disappeared' before releasing Second Coming in 1994. It received less favourable reviews but is still regarded by many as a classic.
Noel Gallagher, from Oasis, has often paid tribute to the role the Roses played in his band's creation.

After the departure of Squire, The Stone Roses split in 1996. Since then Brown has forged a successful solo career.
Squire went on to have some success after forming The Seahorses and released two solo albums before switching his attention to art in 2004.
He will be taking his work to Austria and Tokyo after its appearance in Oldham.
He has also created the artwork for War Child Music's recent Heroes album and his original painting will be auctioned on website eBay from Monday.

The denial comes hot on the heels of statements from those close to Brown.

His booking agent said the rumours were 'absolutely not true' while his record company said he was continuing to concentrate on his solo career.

"quash", good word

They obviously dont need the money....... yet

Mojo 03-19-2009 03:34 PM

I would love the opportunity to see The Roses, however I have a feeling any reunion would be a terrible idea.

This thread made me laugh. I'd never seen it before.

Urban Hat€monger ? 03-19-2009 03:43 PM

Thank God for that.

For a minute there I thought i'd have to change the title of the thread to 'Aren't The Stone Roses Sh*t'

Mojo 03-19-2009 04:05 PM

I have The Second Coming twice. You can have one if you want Urban?

Urban Hat€monger ? 03-19-2009 04:10 PM

I have a copy , which is one more than I need.

lucifer_sam 03-19-2009 06:17 PM

Maybe I'm a bit of a philistine but I just don't get the joke.

I don't get much British broadcasting over here. :(

Gareth Brown 03-20-2009 09:05 PM

I'm English and watch NMTB and i don't get the little in-joke going on.

Urban Hat€monger ? 03-20-2009 09:33 PM

That's because it wasn't on TV.

Stone Roses To Re-Form: Manchester Band To Announce They Will Reunite According To Reports | Showbiz News | Sky News

Zer0 10-16-2011 04:45 AM

Looks like it's actually happening this time. I really don't it's a good idea, I can see them making a fist of it. As much as I'd like to see them live I'd rather wish for time travel to be invented so I could transport back to the late 80's and see them in their original glory, instead of a bunch of middle-age men reliving their glory.

col74 10-16-2011 06:27 AM

Apart from a 4 or 5 excellent songs they weren't very good and not a patch on other manc bands such as James, New Order and Oasis.
Even Ian Browns' solo stuff is better.

Howard the Duck 10-16-2011 07:45 AM

they haven't got shit on the Wu Tang Clan

Mojo 10-16-2011 10:27 AM

Sansa Stark 10-16-2011 10:30 AM

Nope, definitely the Bee Gees

Zer0 10-16-2011 10:49 AM

Nah it's got to be The Ting Tings.
