Well soz but creatively speaking, GM pretty much blitzes Justin.

Depends how you mean. I saw it in the sense of being responsible for your own material rather than innovation. In that sense, George Michael wrote and produced the album Faith, a pop masterpiece, almost entirely on his own. That at least makes him the better craftsman.

I'm not saying either is successful in their pursuit. But it's a similar path.

Do yo' research. Look at George Michael's career as a whole, there is obvious shadowing.

Gackt21 04-01-2008 09:24 PM

Justin is a good singer. I have very few songs I like from him because he is not my style.

dietcoke 04-09-2008 09:19 AM

I give JT credit for being catchy.
And after seeing him in the SNL skit for d*ck in a box, he scored more points from me.

katy_grrrhh 04-11-2008 01:55 PM

Has anyone seen Justin in the new Gnarls Barkley video? He's dressed rather odd in funny dorky kind of way. very reminiscent of his Elton cameo a few years back.

polka_tulk 04-13-2008 12:09 AM

If you Google Justin Timberlake it returns 27,200,000 results. Enuff said!

Lisa Wisey 04-17-2008 08:25 PM

I like JT. He's a cool easygoing guy.

Sparky 01-14-2013 08:47 PM

man i don't hardly like his new song one bit

Saffy89 01-15-2013 06:46 AM

I loved Justified, and liked a couple off Future Sex Loves Sounds, not sure about the new song but im sure it will grow on me!

djchameleon 01-15-2013 03:39 PM

Suit and Tie is such a lukewarm song to be released as a single. I'm looking forward to hearing what else he has in store. I would have preferred it if he released a song that was just him but he has the jay feature on it.

Here's the song so you don't have to go looking it up.

Scarlett O'Hara 01-15-2013 07:30 PM

Laaaaame.....

misspoptart 01-20-2013 11:08 PM

What bull**** is this? So disappointing coming from JT. Buuuuut maybe other stuff on the album will be better?

wwomb1 01-24-2013 08:35 PM

The more I listen to Suit & Tie, the more I fall in love with.

Romainkaiser 01-25-2013 01:50 PM

No way you can compare Mickael to Justin ! 2 different universes

Janszoon 01-25-2013 09:47 PM

Suit & Tie really wasn't what I expected it to be, but Mirrors is just brilliant. It certainly can compare to his greatest songs.

Cyril Snear 02-19-2013 02:49 PM

I don't think you can compare Justin to Michael Jackson. For a start, Justin seems to have his head screwed on a bit better than Jacko did, although Michael Jackson often helped write a lot of his material, unlike Justin

misspoptart 02-20-2013 03:41 AM

I like Mirrors, too, but I wasn't into his performance at the Grammy's. I think the upcoming album may be something of a mixed bag for me...

Jack in green 02-20-2013 04:51 AM

well, I think that he sing and record on the track of the computer his songs and not with some bands, because he have need of many effect for his voice, his voice isn't amazing just is full to effects.

funkdoktah 03-11-2013 08:17 PM

I'm really looking forward to hearing his new album. Just a week left now. I liked both Suit & Tie and Mirrors. I hope the rest of the album will be in a similar style as the two singles, and that more of the songs get as much time to vibe out as Mirrors did, with the last half of the song.

edit: It was pretty much how I wanted it to be. I think the average song length on this album is like 7 minutes.

I love the whole album for this reason. The two shorter tracks just aren't as good as the other long ones that you get to vibe out to.

Let the Groove Get In is definitely one of my faves, it has an off the wall feel to it with more latin flavor to it.

14232949 03-18-2013 02:06 PM

dunno if it's too early to say for definite, but I'm going to put it out there
the 20/20 experience is a game changer. It might actually be an instant classic.

Scarlett O'Hara 03-18-2013 03:34 PM

Bloody hell Manky, I might need to check it out then!

djchameleon 03-18-2013 04:14 PM

Instant classic might be stretching it some and there was a review I read calling it album of the year which is pretty ridiculous at the beginning of the year.

I hear that he's releasing another 10 tracks in the fall for a part two and that will make it the full 20/20 experience.

I don't think he's going to gain any young fans with this album since it doesn't have that many "dance" type tracks and some people are calling it boring.

Yeah. I think much of it is pretty boring indeed. I disagree about it being a classic (as you could probably tell from my review), but there are some really beautiful parts of the album. Thing is, they'll probably just appeal to older fans. I do think he can attract a new audience with the 20/20 experience, but you're right, DJ, they are not going to be young people. :)

14232949 03-19-2013 11:23 AM

yeah, track by track review. I argue irrelevance.

It's more ambitious than any record I've heard from a true 'pop' artist in some time, I don't really think JT's all about the kids. Sexyback doesn't strike me as the type of tune oriented at the younger market. So that's a pretty mute point to make.
The album lets tracks breathe extremely well and has an odd replay ability to it.

Also, I had also heard the second part is due November.

misspoptart 03-21-2013 07:41 AM

I never suggested JT was about kids, but Future Sex/Love Sounds catered to teenagers. This one, in my opinion, does not.

I made the comment about the young fans because of what you had in your review near the end. I did read it and was going to mention all my disagreements about certain tracks but I didn't want to crap all over your review when I was too lazy to do a similar review.

Timbaland's touch was heavily noticed on a few tracks and I feel like he helped put the album over the top. The album is just more of a sophisticated feel to it that will hardly appeal to teens/early 20s crowd like Future Sex did.

misspoptart 03-22-2013 02:25 AM

Aww come on, you can crap all over my review if you want! It's a music forum and your opinion is better than no opinion! :)

funkdoktah 03-26-2013 05:14 PM

Officially a number #1 album. 968.000 sold first week in the US.

It's Official: Justin Timberlake's '20/20' Sells 968,000, Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Chart | Billboard

Deathbyboobie 03-27-2013 05:53 PM

Out of the latest album i have only heard suit and tie..
It is almost good. There is just something off about it.
Makes me think of a remake by a generic band no one has ever heard of.

Soulflower 03-28-2013 06:17 PM

Another one that has a million dollar backing but the talent and music does not equal the hype and marketing. His new album is not horrible but it sounds like his other two albums.

musixluxx4 03-28-2013 08:53 PM

His new stuff is AMAZING!!!

SashQ 03-29-2013 06:43 AM

The first time I heard Suit & Tie on the radio I thought it was Robin Thicke the one who's singing it

you're kidding me right? Did you actually listen to the 20/20 Experience or is this a preconceived notion?

This album doesn't sound anything like JT'S previous efforts. That guy clearly did not listen to the new album. Its certainly growing on me, i think i'll eventually start busting moonwalks to it.

I did and I dont get the hoopla. Credits are comparing him to Stevie Wonder and calling him a genius and it is not on that level as well as his talent.

Suit and Tie was written by 8 songwriters and the rest of the songs on the album has at least 4 songwriters. The album is not horrible but yes it is overrated.

Timbaland used the same sampling drums on some of the songs that he did on Justified. If live instruments were actually used the album probably would have sounded better

Goofle 03-30-2013 07:15 AM

I personally couldn't care less how many people wrote each song as the lyrics are essentially irrelevant to me on an album like this.

"Songwriter" doesn't necessarily have anything to do with lyrics though.
