Guns n Roses did it for me...
I have two older brothers who worshiped them back then, and actually still do. I was only 10 in 1994 but you could say I was the only GnR fan in my class.
However the first cd I ever bought was the single for Always by Bon Jovi...I'm not really in to ol-Jon but I still think is a very good song, and a fine cd to own when you think about it because not many people have it.
So it's Guns and Bon Jovi

Absolutely - actually the past year I've been the most invested in finding new music, but from the late 70's & 80's.

Easily the Gorillaz.
Feel Good Inc.'s chorus, specifically.

as crazy as it may sound, it was The Beatles when I was like 8. I became obbsessed with them...which leads us to now:)

I think that is what did it for me was New Found Glory's self titled album. I thought I was so punk listening to them back in middle school. I thought I had to prove my punkness to everyone. So people would ask what is your favorite punk band I would be like NFG and they would laugh. So I made it my misson to find 'real' punk bands and explore music.

I actually just dl'ed the album i loved in middle school so much like 2 months ago. I listen to it when I want to feel childish now and again. Tis fun lol.

I guess what got me beyond 'what my parents like'(Even though my dad is into Irish folk music and my mom into Israeli Hip-Hop) was Aesop Rock. He was my first non-classic artist. Sad as it is.

Aesop Rock is a genius and one of the few reasons I still listen to hip-hop.
