For that subject matter the first set is by far the superior lyric.

I prefer the voice when it's used as an instrument, so for me lyrics should sound pretty more than they should convey a message.

I like unpoetic lyrics better. I find poetic lyrics far too ambiguous and unless I actually spend some time deciphering them the song doesn't have much meaning at all.. Sure if you take the time to actually decipher them it can put a pretty nice effect on the song but it only changes the tone and doesn't really paint a more immersing picture. Like someone said it really depends on the song.

Unpoetic lyrics are more immediately rewarding, but I like the way poetic lyrics require you to think. They give you a more significant reward once you dicipher the meaning of the song or apply your own to it.
