I love that album.

And it's not a punk album. I don't even consider it proto punk, proto-post punk maybe (try saying that three times fast).

Television put a lot of their musicianship on display and in a way I don't find consistant with punk rock, while talented punk bands exist, they tend to restrain themselves to some extent in order to fit in with the "code" of the genre. Television never thought of themselves as a punk band so they never did that, they weren't afraid to jam.

I would agree that proto post punk is pretty much the best way to describe it. Their sound really didn't have much in common with other punk music from that time.

Proto-punk is a retronym, and from an interview I've seen of Richard Lloyd he didn't consider himself playing in a "Proto-punk" band. Wikipediea doesn't have Televison even mention in their article about Proto-punk, but Television is listed with "Art punk/Avant punk". Most of the time when genre labels are created it has more to do with lumping artist together as a marketing play for record companies so the consumer can find other like bands that are like the bands she/he likes. Rockpile, Elvis Costello, The Stray Cats were lumped in with Punk bands at the time too, and they really didn't consider themselve part of the Punk movement. And Malcom McLaren wanted The Sex Pistols, who are known as the flagship of Punk that were the first Uk band that intiated the Punk movement in the UK - that's if you don't take into consideration the effects of the Ramones, to be known as New Wave. So if you had Malcoms way the Pistols would be known as New Wave not Punk.

Well it's your typical Ziggy Stardust glam rock era Bowie album but with all his American influences thrown in, like Jazz, Doo wop & 50s Rock n Roll.

I guess you could compare it to Young Americans is some ways but to me this sounds much more natural & a lot less forced than that album.

In fact to me it sounds a lot like a Roxy Music album in some ways, A lot of the same influences & elements are used.

Of all the Ziggy era stuff I probably listen to this album the most.

I'll give it a read through now. I noticed the 10/10 at the bottom. I'm looking forward to seeing why you think that.

I like bits and bobs, but for the most part, it bores me.

Also, that David Bowie review thread needs to be revived. It died because we never found someone to review Heroes.

My favourite song on the album is your least favourite.

Urban Hatemonger said this was your typical Bowie Glam rock album, to me it doesn't sound very glam, very different and innovative or whatever but it doesn't do it for me. I'd take Electric Warrior over Aladdin Sane any day.

I wish I could see the big deal with Aladdin Sane.
