I'm still embarrassed about listening to Smashmouth..lol
But my son likes em. yet again hes only 9
isnt it amazing how innocent we all are to music at such a young age.. Before influence and friends come into the picture.
I know growing up I had a lotta Metal played around me .
I guess you all kinda know what i mean..

I don't understand how anyone could be embarrassed to listen to something if its music they enjoy.......music itself has no inherent value so you can't claim a particular song is good or bad, its all subjective.

I guess if you value what other people think of your behavior and opinions above who you are as an individual then being ashamed to like something would make sense.

I'm not trying to insult anyone, I just felt compelled to give my honest opinion on the matter.

I think that if you have a good general understanding of music and genres, then certain bands you listen to will not fit into your usual listening criteria and maybe similar bands you would absolutely detest. Most of the bands mentioned by people are more than likely loved for nostalgia reasons.

Take one of mine for example-SAXON. They play standard classic two guitar heavy metal. Their lyrics are the usual British metal cliches-battles, warriors, girls, rocking the night etc. They have no hugely redeeming features. The vocalist is distinctive but not the world's best. Their line up has constantly changed and the musicians are merely adequate. Yet I really like them because I associate them with a certain time in my life. So yes I am embarressed to like them but i still do.

I don't think anyone would be insulted by your post, it's a perfectly valid point.

I guess the closest thing I have to a guilty musical pleasure is Your Taste Is My Attention, by Lydia

And yet despite all this they still manage to write a song as fantastic as 747 Strangers In The Night.
