By 'normal' I mean they have no group or affiliation.

Funny, where I come from, those kids definitely stand out more than those listening to pop, both in style and general demeanor. :\

the mainstream is generally what is considered to have no group or affiliation. hence the analogical term 'mainstream' from 'main stream' such as where all the tributaries (individual styles) meet. it's not a specific group or affiliation because it's touches all of them.

Metalheads are just damn annoying.

There are times when they even annoy more than Indie fans (no small feat), they tend to dismiss just about everything that isn't metal, but they talk about how versatile their music tastes is, even though all they ever talk about is metal, classical music and jazz fusion. And all they ever find time to talk about is "how techically skilled is guitarist x compared to guitarist y".

Its also just plain stupid that anyone thinks their musicial opinions are superior to others because they know every shred guitar technique.

HEY! it takes 'real' skill to sweep pick arpeggios with added 9ths and diminished 13ths at 240BPM

(i don't really know theory so i don't really know how valid the above statement is, only that it sounds tough - like shredder)
