actually i'd wager it's the 2nd biggest actively pushed market out there. just behind pop. sure the adult contemporary / baby boomer garbage is probably bigger but they don't need to market that, old folks will just go out and get it.

the angry adolescent market (or as RJ puts it - the morbid, depressive, morose pseudo-intellectual morons who feel outcast from society.) works by exploiting the shame and paranoia most teens feel about possibly having their peers find out they used to listen to their older siblings backstreet boys / spice girls albums and knew most of the words back in the day. it's a HUGE market and once you know how to spot them you'll see them everywhere. it's all about being 'unique' just like everyone else.
