if you sign a contract to distribute albums you are a sell out. everyone sells out. I only care if the music is good.

well i meant in the more negative connotation; the one in which you make music for the money, which usually results in worse music.

Why would contributing a song to a movie soundtrack make you a sell out?

And if it does then wouldn't he have sold out ages ago when he contributed Talk Show Host to the Romeo & Juliet soundtrack in the mid 90s?

If an artist has created a song, then it's upto them however they want it to be broadcast, whether it be in a film, on a disc or on a sh*tty advert. The whole concept of selling out is ridiculous and is only championed by people who do not want the general public to hear their favourite bands music.

A small-town band make a stadium-rock album, they've sold out.

A big-time band make a movie soundtrack, they've sold out.

Iggy Pop does car insurance adverts, he's sold out.

Iggy Pop selling car insurance wasn't a crime against humanity because of its contrast with the punk idols image, it was a crime against humanity because the adverts in question were so bloody annoying.

I dunno, I don't think it matters what country you're from, you can like or dislike a band....it all comes down to taste... I have found through this site many folks who love Radiohead and they are quite proudly US Citizens...
