Exactly. Also, it depends upon what era/period of fans you are talking about. Obviously, indie kids of the 2000s generation are more likely to have been educated with regard to the albums that ultimately mattered most in critical circles - namely, OK Computer and Kid A; for those people, The Bends WILL turn out to be somewhat of a neglected, overlooked album. However, as for those who lived out their teens in the 1990s, they will almost invariably associate Radiohead primarily with The Bends and their big, early, anthemic arena-rock hits.
My two cents' worth: I think The Bends is a fairly mundane snoozefest of an alt-rock album with but a few cuts that are worth listening to more than once. It's not a great surprise that OK Computer is praised so much more.
